Stop throwing with your arms! 🛑

True rotational power starts with a proper hip hinge. The arms should simply be an extension of the power generated by the lower body.

This video highlights how to build that sequence through a variety of medicine ball throws. By allowing the rotation to come directly from the hips, explosive output is maximized.

Using a TAP® Soft Medicine Ball for these drills is a game-changer because its design allows for maximum force and intent on every throw, without the worry of a dangerous, high-velocity bounce back.

đź’ˇ The Key: Focus on pushing the hips back to load, then aggressively driving through the hips to rotate and release.

Most bat speed development stalls for the same reason. Athletes reach for the tools that look like the swing before the physical foundation that makes those tools effective has been built.

A weighted bat or resistance trainer changes the feel of a drill. It does not supply the strength, mobility, or rotational power the body does not yet have. Research on what actually drives swing velocity points toward a sequence — and the order matters as much as the tools themselves.

The TAP® Bat NOS is a neuromuscular overspeed training device designed to alter how the upper body accelerates a swing. Traditional donuts make a bat feel light after use, but they actually train your nervous system to move slower. This tool does the exact opposite.

By utilizing a standard handle paired with a dynamic fulcrum and an adjustable counterweight system, it creates a specific mechanical constraint. As you move through your path, the device accelerates through the zone, supplying an overspeed swing—a specialized stimulus that conditions the athlete's nervous system to handle faster velocities. This resets your neural firing rates so you can actively transfer that speed to your standard bat. Adjust the removable 4-ounce weight increments to target your specific velocity thresholds. Use it in the cage or as a primary on-deck prep tool.

Isolate the rotator cuff by turning off the larger chest and back muscles.

By keeping the elbow tucked in neutral abduction (meaning the arm is kept close to the side rather than flared out), you take the big prime movers out of the equation and pass the load directly to the deep rotators. Sustaining a clean oscillation wave here requires incredible neuromuscular timing—training your brain and muscles to fire together efficiently. 30 seconds of this and your shoulder complex is fully awake.

🔹 Commonly used for:
* Baseball arm care and throwing preparation
* Overhead athlete prep work
* Rotator cuff activation before high-intent training blocks

Did you know that your body has a built-in "speed limiter" to protect your shoulder? 🛑

Your brain will only allow your arm to accelerate as fast as your muscles can safely slow it down. If you aren't actively training the muscles on the back of your shoulder to handle those massive braking forces, you are leaving velocity on the table.

Shadow pitching with TAP® Weighted Cuffs is a game-changer for arm health. The added resistance builds elite eccentric deceleration tolerance, meaning your body can safely handle more speed. Plus, it sharpens your awareness of your arm path and builds the endurance needed to stay strong all game long.

Perfect for pre-game warmups or post-game recovery blocks.

Stop flat ground? While it has a traditional place in a throwing routine, throwing high-intent reps on flat ground fundamentally changes a pitcher’s timing, often introducing unwanted corruption into the delivery.

Here is the biomechanical reality: The mound is sloped so the body has time to gain momentum and organize itself efficiently. When you strip away that slope, you strip away the time the body needs to sequence correctly.

That’s where the lateral plyo angle shifts the equation. Utilizing a strategic lateral plyo angle gives athletes a distinct window to:

Get off the ground and achieve true elevation.
Work on efficient timing and sequencing of the lower half.
Gain momentum dynamically, closely mimicking the slope mechanics of a real mound.
Stop fighting the flat ground timing trap. Give your lower half the slope it needs to organize efficiently.

The TAP® Hammer Net is a corded ball-harness system designed to maintain load connectivity through the entire throwing and slamming path of motion.

Standard medicine ball slams terminate the training stimulus at release. By keeping the athlete tethered to the ballast, this tool introduces an immediate demand for eccentric braking the moment the net hits the floor. Your tissues must instantly absorb the force and transition from rapid deceleration to explosive concentric acceleration. This continuous loop trains tissue elasticity and structural tolerance along the entire kinetic chain.

Commonly used for warm-ups, dynamic rotational power development, and overhead deceleration training blocks.

Accumulated fatigue doesn't erase the fitness built over a full off-season. It buries it.

The strength, coordination, and reactive stability developed across general and specific preparation are still there — sitting underneath recovery debt the body cannot fully service during a compressed competitive schedule. A deliberate volume reduction removes that debt without removing the fitness underneath it. That is what taper and peak is built around.

You don’t need a massive budget or a concrete block wall to run a high-velocity throwing program. You just need a fence and the right protection.

The TAP® Portable Plyo Mat is built to protect your investment. First and foremost, it shields your expensive weighted balls from the harsh friction of chain-link wire. Second, it absorbs the brunt of the kinetic energy so you don't stretch or warp the fence over time.

Because the high-impact compound disperses the vibration immediately, the mat stays perfectly anchored right where you hung it—even during rapid-fire, high-intent velocity blocks.

Give your athletes the freedom to let it fly anywhere there's a fence, without trashing your balls or the facility infrastructure.

Why do standard hook fasteners always seem to fail on throwing nets and hitting cages?

Frequently, the vibration from ball impacts causes metal or plastic hooks to slip or unhook. In this clip, Drayton explains the specific mechanics behind the ball bungees we use to secure our target systems.

Unlike a traditional hook that relies on a single point of contact, the ball bungee creates a self-tightening loop. When you pass the elastic cord around the frame and back over the ball anchor, the system utilizes the applied tension to cinch tighter. This keeps your gear securely fixed in place, eliminating the need to constantly halt training to fix slipping attachments.
