This day 5 years ago, I came into the Humboldt office with a full schedule of patients. It did not dawn on me until just an hour ago that this was Function First's 5th Anniversary (aka Birthday, as sometimes it feels like I am managing a child 😛).

THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me along the way
whether it was from day one or just yesterday. Your prayers, well wishes, and patronage is so very appreciated.

THANK YOU to the amazing patients who consistently and frequently refer their friends and loved ones. You are the reason for my growth and I appreciate you more than you know.

THANK YOU to my family (the most devoted and supportive being my husband...also the building carpenter 🤣).

THANK YOU to my employess, past and present. If you were a part of the business at one point, I am grateful to what you contributed. Special shout out to Lilly ❤ (the voice of Function First).

Owning a business is wild. It is stressful. It is emotional. It is also amazingly fulfilling. It has become a part of me that I have had to learn to manage and navigate, with the struggles placed in front of me both in my personal and business life. I thank God for every minute, day and year that it continues. All credit for success goes to God!

Specialization, adaptability, and evolution. These are some of the descriptions that come to mind when getting to know the coaches at Crimmins Performance Center. Athletes need programs that are versatile and address all aspects of athleticism. Another positive is coaches willing to take feedback, learn, and collaborate with area specialities. Recommend them for the next stage after pain resolution/injury healing.

Truly correcting issues takes teamwork. It takes a commitment from the doctor on listening and truly getting to the root cause of the issue. It takes a commitment by the patient to do what is asked of them even if it does take time. When you get that perfect combination of doctor plus patient...it is true healing.

This track season has been an especially strenuous one on many of our area athletes. This is a good read and a good reminder that injury prevention has many components and a sometimes overlooked one is what the athlete is consuming.

The FICS Research Commission shares this recommended read.

📖Nutrition for the Prevention and Treatment of Injuries in Track and Field Athletes

Given the high prevalence of injury, it is not surprising that there has been a great deal of interest in factors that may reduce the risk of injury, or decrease the recovery time if an injury should occur: One of the main variables explored is nutrition.

This review investigates the evidence around various nutrition strategies, including macro- and micronutrients, as well as total energy intake, to reduce the risk of injury and improve recovery time, focusing upon injuries to skeletal muscle, bone, tendons, and ligaments.
