John Dietenhofer the launch driver has crafted a beautiful hatch cover for the club whaler named Moby. He chose Starboard for its durability and maintenance free characteristic. John is a gem. His work is of the highest quality. The final Whaler mahogany seat back is rescued from demise by a just-in-time restoration by Joe Berkeley. The Blessed Boat Committee is looking for talented craftsmen and women to assist in the maintenance of the club fleet. The goal is to treat each club boat as if it is our own. We are hopeful that approach will inspire users to take good care of club property.

Nemo, HYC 17 foot Boston Whaler Montauk restoration by the Blessed Boat Committee. More work than forecast. Thanks to Fitz for a piece of oak to replace the rotten-as-a-peach piece of mahogany in the bottom of the seat back. Cut the bevels, fit the piece, new holes, new screws, new Sikkens finish, new hope. Amen.

The Blessed Boat Committee has commenced work upon the whaler named Nemo. During a restoration project, the judge, jury, and executioner is the shop vac. When a rotten part of the boat goes up the shop vac hose, there is no turning back. Plans are in the works to refresh Nemo such that she is a serviceable boat ready to go to work on behalf of the club. One coat of Sikkens Cetol is applied. One more to go. Plans to replace the rotten wood with new are in the works.

The Blessed Boat Committee is pleased to introduce the newest Whaler to the fleet, Ishmael. The Executive Committee approved the purchase. Mike Broomhead located a sweet 17 foot Montauk with good bones. In a moment of divine inspiration, the Blessed Boat Committee refinished seat and anchor cover with Sikkens Cetol, the official coating of Hull Yacht Club brightwork. A good sanding with the Festool dustless sander prepared the original mahogany to receive the nourishing elixir. Ishmael is motivated by a low-hour Yamaha engine that is in good shape. Her trailer even boasts a spare. Tannermatic shall fenderize her in the days ahead. We treat club boats as if they were our own.

Harbinger has good bones. If we take good care of her, she will take good care of us. It is the belief of the Blessed Boat Committee that it is better to do preventative maintenance rather than do nothing and have the boat fall apart. This year she received refreshed bright work, a new shroud for her mast, and some engine care. After the work Otis and Max partied like rock stars.
