What a day on the roads today.
Starting with an early morning trash truck rollover that resulted in a reduction in lanes for on-Cape travel for a good portion of the day and traffic congestion throughtout the area. That traffic continues with major delays on most roadways throughout town.
Our amazing dispatchers had nearly non-stop calls for service and of officers navigated throughout the congestion, responding to a host of emergencies, including a motorcycle crash that resulted in a MedFlight (also on the roadways near the Sagamore Bridge), multiple reports of neighbor disputes and/or road rage throughout the day, assisting the FD with several emergency rescue calls, including a report of a person in labor while in traffic and a brush fire in the area of the Bourne Bridge. In between responding to these calls, officers were in the busiest of the areas monitoring and enforcing the traffic regulations. The combination of the usual holiday traffic with the restricted roadways led to many motorists having an early test of their patience while on the road. There was even one call for a motorist that fell asleep in the traffic.
Those that remembered to renew their Alternate Canal Transport Authority passes were able to enjoy a traffic free experience via the Canal Tunnel or an airconditioned scenic view of the Canal via the Cape Cod Canal Monorail. Others opted to feel the wind in there hair while utilizing the Canal Zip Line or Catapult (sorry if the catapult was slightly off target). For those that did not renew their permits, or were unable to locate the entrance, we sincerely appreciate your patience.
