After doing 300-350 jumping jacks, pushups, knee bends, sit-ups, and running 2.5 miles, the REAL test began. They demonstrated all their knowledge of terminology in English and Japanese, empty hand and weapons kata, ex*****on of various karate techniques, performed sessions where they had to “train” others, and ended the test by sparring the other black belts present, as well as their team mates.
The total test was approximately 5.5 hours long.
In addition to the physical part of the test, the students also had to write a research paper on the history of Okinawan martial arts, and submit a copy of their personal testimonies of their walk with Jesus Christ.
Our students were able to witness two Senseis from Ikimono Ryu, Sensei Dawn and Sensei Beth get promoted to 4th Dan, and see their own Sensei Evans get promoted to 10th Dan, which is the highest rank in the program. It can only be awarded after decades of experience, and a consensus decision from other high ranking black belts.
Another big surprise! Two of our own students, Krosby and Micah, were promoted to First Degree Black Belts!!! This decision was not made lightly, and much was taken into consideration. Factors beyond skill and experience included their leadership, and recommendations from other high ranking Senseis.
We want to thank all of the black belts who were present for today’s test and belt ceremony, as well as those who helped count all those pushups, sit-ups, jumping jacks, knee bends, and laps! We couldn’t have done this without you!
Congratulations to everyone! Your hard work continues to pay off!
