📣 get to know our guy Zach Toman

Where are you from? (Where did u go to School)? - From Greenville, Ohio. Went to Ball State University in Muncie Indiana.

What’s your athletic background? - I swam D1 College Swimming for 4 Years.

Your favorite place to eat on/around Hilton Head Island? - My favorite place to eat would have to be either fat babies or char bar!

What do you like most about working at Shore Beach Service? - My favorite part about working for Shore Beach Service would have to be meeting and getting to know all of the new / old guards each summer!

What are some qualities that make a great lifeguard? - Hmmm some great qualities to have would be staying calm under pressure, good communication skills, and having a positive attitude on the worst days!

Most memorable thing that’s happened on the beach when you were working? - One of the most memorable things that’s happened to me while working would probably be working at the Omni and having my second grade teacher come up to me to rent and she recognized me immediately after all those years!

How did it feel to be named lifeguard of the year? - Being named Lifeguard of the Year was a really special moment for me. It was rewarding to know that my hard work and dedication were recognized, and it made me even more proud to be part of the team!

🛟 ANIMAL RESCUE OF THE WEEK 🛟

For the third consecutive week, one of our guards assists to save a non-human life.

Veteran guard Cole Lohoefener and órla róisín were patrolling the beach near shipyard beach club when they saw an unmarked baby sea turtle boil happening live! Suddenly, a hungry seagull swooped in and flew off with one of the hatchlings.

Cole’s lifesaving instincts kicked in, and he chased down the seagull until it dropped the hatchling. Cole returned it safely to its siblings to start their ocean journey. Nice work, Cole!

And thank you Sea Turtle Patrol HHI for all you do to protect these wonderful creatures.
