Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets Fall To Cloquet Varsity After Surrendering Big First Inning

Cloquet Varsity defeated Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets 12-2 on Thursday at Braun Park thanks in part to seven runs in the first inning.
Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets were the first to get on the board in the first when Kori McCormick tripled, scoring one run.
Cloquet Varsity flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs on six hits to take the lead, 7-1. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Cloquet Varsity extended their early lead with two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to RBI singles by Ava Wefelmeyer and Ali Krivinchuk.
Ella Anderson earned the win for Cloquet Varsity. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out eight and walking none. Grace Estey pitched four and two-thirds innings in relief for Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets. The pitcher surrendered 11 hits and five runs (three earned) while, striking out five and walking one. Emma McDowell took the loss for Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets. The starter went two-thirds of an inning, allowing seven runs (two earned) on five hits, striking out none and walking one.
Gianna Manning and McCormick each collected one hit for Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets. McCormick and McDowell were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in one run for Hibbing Varsity Bluejackets.
Cloquet Varsity accumulated 16 hits in the game. Krivinchuk led Cloquet Varsity with three runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. Krivinchuk went 4-for-4 on the day. Emma Warnygora, Rylie Goranson, Wefelmeyer, and Lynnea Wilton each collected multiple hits for Cloquet Varsity. Cloquet Varsity turned one double play in the game.
