What if you started fencing in college with zero experience… and a few years later you were team captain — and then coaching saber?

In the newest episode of First to 15, Deep Patel shares how he went from soccer/lacrosse athlete to fencing walk-on to leader — and what made his growth accelerate: transferable footwork, mindset shifts from team sports to individual bouts, learning the rules faster than most beginners do, and staying relentlessly curious.

We also talk about post-college fencing (it doesn’t have to be “see you at Vet 40”), and how clubs — especially newer ones — can create more ways for people to stay connected to fencing for life.
