Centennial Celebration at FS Garrison Stadium Ends With a 63-23 Goblin Rout

HARRISON, Ark. – The Goblin turns 100, and the celebration was a loud one. Harrison dominated the visiting Sandlizards of Dardanelle 63-23 on Friday night at FS Garrison Stadium.

The Goblins needed one play to set the tone. On Dardanelle’s opening possession, Sky Lee stepped in front of a Kam Olson pass at the Sandlizard 35 and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown. Truett Bardwell’s extra point made it 7-0 before the visitors had run a second snap.

Dardanelle answered with a 30-yard Leo Martinez field goal, but Lee struck again on offense with a 4-yard touchdown run to make it 14-3. The Sandlizards hit back when Olson found Brayden Mans for a 72-yard score, and Harrison led 14-10 after one quarter.

The second quarter belonged to Harrison. Brayden Rhein ripped off touchdown runs of 9 and 11 yards, and quarterback Gavin Jones hit Dawson Smith in stride for a 67-yard scoring strike. Lee added a 2-yard plunge, and in a span of less than nine minutes of game time, the Goblins turned a four-point lead into a 42-10 advantage. Jayvon Chaten’s 13-yard run with 33 seconds left before halftime trimmed it to 42-17, but the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Rhein put the finishing touches on his night in the third quarter, breaking free for a 63-yard touchdown and adding a 1-yard score. Michael Howard then made the most of his only carry of the night, a 51-yard run to the end zone that made it 63-17. Rhein finished with 176 yards on 13 carries and four touchdowns. Jones added 53 rushing yards on five carries and went 8-of-13 through the air for 115 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Harrison finished with 294 rushing yards, an average of 13.4 per carry, and 409 total yards on just 35 plays, an average of 11.7 per snap.

The Goblin defense did its part. Lee led the way with seven tackles, a tackle for loss and the pick-six, while Jenner Thomas and Caleb Melendez also intercepted Dardanelle passes, giving Harrison three takeaways. Bryce Jones and Wylie Hoppis each recorded 1.5 tackles for loss as the Goblins piled up seven in all for 21 yards. Dardanelle was held to 137 net rushing yards on 29 carries, and the Sandlizards were flagged eight times for 74 yards.

The Sandlizards found some success through the air. Olson went 5-of-13 for 97 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions, and CJ Cursh added 69 passing yards. Chaten caught four passes for 61 yards, and Mans finished with two catches for 81 yards and a score. Cursh also led Dardanelle on the ground with 58 yards. Ayden Honeyman capped the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run in the final two minutes, though the extra point failed.

Truett Bardwell tied a Harrison record by going 9-for-9 on extra points and booming ten kickoffs for a 44.0-yard average.

Harrison held the ball for just over 15 minutes to Dardanelle’s 31, a testament to how quickly the Goblins found the end zone, and the offense converted six third downs.

Goblins Mark 100 Years of Their Mascot Tonight as Dardanelle Comes to Town

HARRISON, Ark. — The Harrison Goblins celebrate a century under their mascot tonight when they welcome the Dardanelle Sandlizards to F.S. Garrison Stadium for a 5A West Conference game. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

The all-time series is even at 2-2. Dardanelle won the first two meetings, both shutouts nearly a century ago, and Harrison has taken the two most recent.

Lady Goblins Top Huntsville in Four, Punch Ticket to 4A North Regional Final

MENA, Ark. — Harrison’s Lady Goblins served their way into the 4A North Regional championship match Tuesday evening, beating the Huntsville Lady Eagles 3-1 (25-20, 25-19, 19-25, 25-12) in the semifinals at Mena.

Harrison controlled the match from the service line, piling up 15 aces. Freshman Colbie Ricketts led the charge with eight of them, repeatedly breaking down Huntsville’s serve receive and giving the Lady Goblins easy runs of points.

The first two sets followed a similar pattern. Harrison built leads behind its serving and steady attacking, then closed out Set 1 at 25-20 and Set 2 at 25-19.

Huntsville wasn’t done. The Lady Eagles took the third set 25-19, extending the match and forcing Harrison to regroup with a championship berth on the line.

The response was decisive. Harrison overwhelmed Huntsville in the fourth set, 25-12, and never let the Lady Eagles build any momentum toward a fifth.

Head coach April Mattix’s squad spread the attack across several hitters and finished with 45 kills. Junior outside hitter Holly Keeter led the team with 11 kills on 31 swings. Seniors Grace Jennings and Lily Burns each added 10 kills. Burns was especially efficient, hitting .429 with just one error in 21 attempts.

Jennings, a 6-foot senior middle, was a force on both ends of the floor. Along with her 10 kills, she recorded four solo blocks and three aces.

Senior middle Mollie Lineberger anchored the defense at the net. She led all players with five solo blocks and two block assists, and she added five kills. Burns chipped in two more blocks as Harrison combined for 11 solo blocks, shutting down Huntsville’s attack at key moments.

Sophomore Mia Miller added five kills and two aces. Ricketts added four kills to her big serving night, and sophomore Lilian Ostberg contributed an ace.

With the win, the Lady Goblins advance to the 4A North Regional championship.

In their first season in 4A, the Lady Goblins are riding a six-match win streak. They're 4A-1 District champs, swept Ozark 3-0 and beat Huntsville 3-1 to reach the final. They've already clinched a spot at state in Bauxite.
