FIRST JV TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR!

Yesterday was a BIG day for this group! ❤️🏐

Coming into the Pellston JV tournament, these girls had played ONE game together all season. One game! 😂 They were still learning rotations, figuring things out, and learning how to play together.

Then yesterday they stepped onto the court and played 4 matches, 8 sets…and WON 4 of them! 🙌🏐

And… 28 ACES AS A TEAM?! 🤯🔥

But the numbers only tell part of the story. What made me most proud was the growth…learning, adjusting, trusting each other, making plays when they mattered, and continuing to fight for one another.

Every girl contributed. Every girl brought something different. And every girl gave me something to be proud of. ❤️ (Scroll the photos to find the girls’ stats!

A special congratulations to Audrey Dutcher, our first-ever JV Player of the Game! 🏆 Audrey was a difference-maker all day with 11 kills and 9 aces, stepping up when her team needed her. 🔥

So much growth. So much heart. ❤️

And the best part? There is SO much more growth ahead. If this is what these girls can do after only one game together, I can’t wait to see how far they can come by the end of the season!

This is just the beginning. 🏐 ⚔️

Harbor Light Varsity Opens the Season with a 4-set win over Harbor Springs!

Super proud of the girls last night in their first official game! We took down Harbor Springs in four close sets, including two tight 25-23 victories.

With our middle hitter out due to a pulled muscle, the rest of the team stepped up and battled hard to bring home the win.

Maryah led the night with 16 kills and 26 digs, dominating both offense and defense. Makenna added 4 aces, 9 kills, and 10 digs, giving us strength from the service line and the front row. Lilly anchored our defense with 15 digs and a solid 72 percent serve-receive. Alayna ran the offense with confidence, finishing with 31 assists, 6 aces, and 8 digs.

Lylah and Braelyn stepped into the middle blocker role and handled it beautifully.

This team fought for every point, and their grit showed from start to finish! ⚔️

Harbor Light JV takes the WIN over Harbor Springs!!

We kicked off our JV season with a nail-biter against our friends at Harbor Springs! With several girls stepping onto the court for the first time…including Olivia Migda, who snagged two kills in her debut…our team showed up with heart. Even though no amount of practice can fully prepare you for that first-game buzz, these girls supported one another and found their rhythm under pressure.

We dropped the first set 25-21, then rallied to take the next two sets 25-23 and 15-13. It was a close match all the way through, and I couldn’t be prouder of how they kept pushing forward.

As the season unfolds and everyone settles into their roles, I know they’ll only get stronger…because if they can handle that first-game whirlwind, they can handle anything!

Coaching is about so much more than what happens on the court. In today’s Kingdom Coaching Minute, Coach Mandi reflects on the incredible privilege and responsibility of coaching, and the lasting impact we can have on the young people entrusted to us.

“Today is our first game of the season.

As I step onto the court for my 20th year of coaching, I find myself reflecting on what an incredible privilege it truly is to be a coach.

Parents are trusting you with some of their greatest treasures. Players are trusting you to have their backs…to see them right where they are…and to push them to become the best version of themselves.

And as coaches who follow Christ, we recognize something even greater: the Lord is trusting us with His children…to love them like Christ loves them.

That responsibility is so much bigger than volleyball.

Yes, we teach them how to pass, serve, hit, compete and fight for the next point. But along the way, we’re also teaching them physical, mental and spiritual toughness. We’re teaching them respect, teamwork, confidence, discipline, perseverance, communication, leadership, and how to keep going when things get hard. 💪🏻

We may only have them for a short season, but our impact can last far beyond their volleyball years. What we build in them can go with them into college, careers, relationships, families and every challenge life puts in front of them.

Twenty years of coaching has taught me that the wins and losses are temporary. The people we help shape are not.

So when the world is already busy finding their faults, be the one who helps them find their strength.

See them. Believe in them. Challenge them. Encourage them. Love them.

Be their biggest fan.

Because we aren’t just building volleyball players.

We’re helping build the people they are becoming.

And what a privilege it is to be trusted with that. “ 💚

🏐Coach Hannah’s Corner🏐

Very proud of these girls after a LONG Saturday at the Pellston tournament! They pushed hard, battled through every game, and proved over and over that they aren’t going to give up. We battled our way back into games we were down in, winning some and losing some, and finished the day 7–4, placing 6th out of 12 teams.! We also won our first bracket game before splitting the first two sets of our second match and falling in the third, 12–15. What a fight! 👏

A few standout stats from the day:

🔥 Cara : 45 kills, 9 block kills, 6 aces & 33 digs
💪 Lilly Cope : 44 digs with a 74% serve receive
🏐 Makenna : 13 kills & 38 digs, playing extremely consistent defense and limiting hitting errors
🎯 Alayna : 63 assists, 16 digs & 5 aces, running our offense and making great decisions throughout the day

I am SO excited for this season! We have a lot to learn, grow, and clean up, but this team has already shown something that matters just as much as skill …they stay in it. They fight for each other, they battle back, and they keep pushing all the way to the end. I am so proud of the whole team and the way they competed today!

And we have to give a shoutout to Isaac, Hunter, and Landon, who spent the day cheering our girls on from the stands! 👏 We’re not exactly sure if the hats were a good-luck ritual, a fashion statement, or just three guys having way too much fun 😂 …but whatever they were doing, we appreciated the energy and support they brought all day!

Anything but a water bottle day 💦😂

The girls understood the assignment! Our JV girls brought ALL kinds of creative “water bottles” to practice on Friday. Definitely made for some laughs! 😂

Love this crew! ❤️🩶⚔️
