🏆 A Historic Achievement for Harris County Parks and Recreation! 🏆

We are incredibly proud to announce that Matthew OBrien has been named a 2026 Georgia Recreation and Park Association (GRPA) District 4 Award recipient!

This recognition is especially meaningful as Matthew has made history by becoming the first individual from Harris County to receive a GRPA award!

Matthew is a valued member of our Parks and Recreation team, and we are truly fortunate to have someone with his dedication, passion, and commitment to serving our community. His hard work and contributions continue to make a positive impact on our department and the citizens of Harris County.

This is not only a tremendous accomplishment for Matthew but also a proud moment for our entire department and community!

For the safety and well-being of our community and staff, the Community Center, Solid Waste Transfer Station, Solid Waste Convenience Centers, and Animal Control will be closed on Saturday, October 10, 2026, due to the potential impacts of severe weather in our area.

The Solid Waste Convenience Centers will reopen, and all other facilities will resume their regular operating schedules on Sunday, October 11, 2026.

Severe weather conditions may include heavy rainfall, damaging winds with gusts up to 50 mph, the possibility of tornadoes, downed trees, and power outages.

We encourage everyone to remain weather-aware, monitor local weather updates, and take the necessary precautions to keep themselves and their families safe. Please avoid unnecessary travel during hazardous conditions and follow all guidance from local emergency management officials.

We appreciate your patience, understanding, and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our community. Please stay safe and take care of one another!

TOWN OF PINE MOUNTAIN TO DEDICATE BALLFIELD IN MEMORY OF ROBERT “FOX” MCGHEE



Aug. 29 ceremony will honor longtime coach, mentor and educator whose influence touched generations of local young people





PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (Aug. 18, 2026) — The Town of Pine Mountain will honor the life and legacy of Robert “Fox” McGhee with the official dedication of the Robert “Fox” McGhee Ballfield on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Pine Mountain ballfield, 623 N. Main Ave.



The community is invited to attend the dedication ceremony at 1 p.m., when the ballfield will officially be named in memory of McGhee, a longtime coach, mentor and educator whose commitment to young people and athletics made a lasting impact on Pine Mountain and the surrounding community.



For generations of local athletes, McGhee was more than a coach. Through athletics, he encouraged young people to develop confidence, discipline, teamwork and character -- lessons that extended far beyond the playing field.

“Coach Robert ‘Fox’ McGhee devoted so much of his life to encouraging and mentoring young people,” said Pine Mountain Mayor Mary Ruth Mullins. “His influence can still be seen in the lives of the people he coached and taught. Naming this ballfield in his honor is a lasting way for our community to recognize his service and ensure that his legacy continues for generations to come.”

“Our family is deeply honored by this recognition,” said Tamika Lawton, daughter of Coach McGhee. “Coach McGhee believed in the power of athletics to bring people together and help young people grow in confidence and character. Knowing that future generations will play on a field bearing his name is a tribute our family will always cherish.”

The dedication will include 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, and the unveiling of the Robert “Fox” McGhee Ballfield name.

Community members, former players, students, colleagues, friends and others whose lives were touched by McGhee are encouraged to attend and join the Town of Pine Mountain and the McGhee family in celebrating his contributions to the community.

The dedication ceremony is free and open to the public.
