Cherrylake Farm Races

Cherrylake Farm Races Conquer the clay trails of Cherrylake’s 1,100 acre tree farm with a 5k, 10k or duathlon! 🏃 1.31.2026 We value the importance of community and sustainability.

Our Cherrylake Farm Races presented by Orlando Health South Lake Hospital features a 5k, 10k or duathlon. It's an exciting time when friends and families enjoy the outdoors, local businesses come out to meet their neighbors, and racers get to experience a unique tree-lined course. Because of this, our goal for Farm Races is much more than providing racers with just a great morning outdoors. In hon

or of each participant, we will be donating one tree to be planted in a protected conservation area. Race proceeds will be allocated to a local non-profit.

The Farm Races family left a lasting mark on the community with the Plant for the Future mural at the Downtown Clermont Art Walk. This unique project stands as a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and nurture the environment that sustains us. More than a piece of art, it’s a call to action, an invitation to care for the land and the future we all share. The 2025 Farm Races swag pays homage to this mural and its message: to steward the land for generations to come.

“Super great place to host a duathlon. The uniqueness of running through the farmland was a fun experience. The hills on the bike and the run were an added challenge along with the soft sand in the run. The course was very well marked and laid out well. Very organized event and well managed. Will definitely be back!”

This week, we reflect on a really special project to honor 10 years of Farm Races. In 2022, we were able to donate over 31 trees to the Groveland Cemetery, including live oaks, podocarpus, and wax myrtle. Once assumed to hold 70 individuals, drone radar revealed more than 200 bodies laid to rest here. What followed was a grassroots effort led by community volunteers, city staff, and firefighters to restore the site with care and reverence.

The landscape plan does more than beautify; it guides visitors through a reflective sequence of memorial features, native plantings, and pathways. Each element is designed to bring life back to the space while honoring those who came before. What began as a meaningful project grew into a symbol of community healing. We are thankful for the role Farm Races contributed to that.🫶

Josh and Denise don’t wait around for change; they get in the water and make it happen. As private landowners on Lake Lucy in Groveland, they’ve taken it upon themselves to restore the lake’s natural cypress fringe that was likely cleared generations ago to make way for early agriculture like turpentine and citrus.

They have come up with a method to plant the trees in the water, and stake them to allow establishment. They do this just the two of them. They did their first planting using their own budget (and curbside.com); they later learned about our 1,000 trees program and have since done two additional plantings with our 1-gallon bald cypress trees.

Denise was a professional waterskier and member of Team USA. Today, both Josh and Denise compete at a high level in paddleboarding, and have a love for all water sports, including sailing, windsurfing and wakeboarding. Their connection to the water likely fuels their passion for restoring the shorelines of Lake Lucy and the Palatlakha blueway. We are grateful to them and our Farm Races community for making the magic happen!

Nearly 200 bald cypress trees have just taken root last month at the Oakland Nature Preserve, each one marked with a pink ribbon as it begins its journey. Chosen for their natural fit in this environment, these trees will play a quiet but powerful role as they clean water, create habitat, and gradually enrich the landscape over time.

The ribbons mark trees that will be tracked as they establish and grow, giving a glimpse into how this landscape continues to evolve. We’ve had the chance to donate trees to the Preserve in years past, and we’re proud that Farm Race registrations continue to bring new life to the community and ecosystem!

To honor 10 years of impact through Farm Races, we are looking back at how our registration funds have been used. Today, we highlight the Bald Cypress tree planting at Windy Hill Middle School in 2023 that was made possible through Farm Races registrations. The Bald Cypress is a keystone species because it is foundational, providing critical habitat, flood control, and structural stability that other species depend on for survival. We love how each registration has a ripple of impact in our community!
