A quick snapshot from our warm-up before we flowed into yesterday's Contact Improv Jam 🌀

We loved seeing so many people come together to explore, connect, and play! Big thank you to Alli Ocean for guiding us in a wonderful warm up.

MAGMA is pleased to announce that they have received a grant from the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, through its Cultural Experiences Program. Mass Cultural Council

This grant will help fund a dance performance series at MAGMA this upcoming Winter and Spring, bringing high-quality dance to our intimate theater space. Please stay tuned for the series announcement later this month.

Special thanks to our Massachusetts legislators that continue to fund the MCC and help support working artists and cultural facilities through grants like these. Also special thanks for MAGMA’s fiscal sponsor Boston Dance Alliance for the great service you do for dance in Massachusetts.

Our Fall Youth Program begins September 14th!

Introducing young people to this rich world of dance, and the rewarding practice of developing one’s body and mind through a physical discipline, is one of our most important and beloved jobs here at MAGMA.

Our classes are taught methodically and safely, giving each child a foundation of strength and agility before moving on to more complex moves. We place emphasis on age appropriate material in our movement vocabulary and music choices. Our broad curriculum gives kids a variety of styles and approaches to discover and explore.

We create a culture of practice that helps kids understand their own strengths, cheer on other’s strengths, and work on where they need improvement without judgement or negativity. And we believe that everyone, regardless of financial means, should have access to dance lessons, so need-based scholarships are available to offset tuition costs.

A 30 minute warm-up facilitated by Alli Ocean followed by an open Contact Improvisation session. All Levels Welcome!

Capoeira at MAGMA ~ This Afro-Brazilian art form combines elements of dance, martial arts, music, and acrobatics into a fluid, no-contact game between two players.

Training in Capoeira develops stamina, strength, flexibility, and self-awareness.
We offer both youth classes for ages 5–14 and adult classes (15+ welcome).

Classes are led by Ramon Alves , Contra Mestre with the Boston-based group Mandingueiros dos Palmares, under Grão Mestre Chuvisco.

The loss of many creatives within the last month has been tough. It is a sad but powerful reminder of the tangible impact that music, dance, movement, and creative pursuits of all kinds can have within our lives and the lives of others.

Take the time (even if it’s just a moment) to do a little wiggle, breathe, and give yourself some space to reset.

~ Relax your jaw
~ Wiggle your fingers and toes (maybe a full body shake)
~ Take a big belly breath and release it

And remember that the ways we express ourselves can have an impact that lives far beyond our time on this plane and that is a beautiful thing.

Cape Ann Guitar Society presents Folk Week 2026!

Join us at MAGMA • 9/5/2026 7PM to 9PM
for an evening of Manouche with the Henry Acker Trio 🎶

Manouche also known as Gypsy Jazz - virtuosic and highly expressive music that originated in 1930's France. Henry Acker is a young powerhouse jazz guitarist who performs both in the style of Django Reinhardt as well as in the traditional jazz style.

Henry has shared the stage with jazz greats Bucky Pizzarelli, Frank Vignola, Julian Lage, Bireli Lagrene and Vic Juris as well as Gypsy Jazz legends Samson Schmitt, Mozes Rosenberg, Adrien Moignard and Joscho Stephan. He is the winner of the 2017 Djangofest North West Saga Award and a five time winner of the Downbeat Magazine Student Award for jazz guitar soloist.
