1. Her needs get smaller
She asks for connection, for friendship, for partnership.
He sighs, gets irritated, acts like she’s asking for a miracle.
She thinks: “Maybe I shouldn’t need so much.”
2. Her feelings get dismissed
She shares that something hurt.
He explains why she misunderstood, why she shouldn’t feel that way, why her reaction is the real issue.
She thinks: “Maybe my emotions are wrong.”
3. Her voice gets quiet
She talks about a dream, a goal, a spark she’s proud of.
He jokes, minimizes, changes the subject.
She thinks: “Maybe I’m not meant for more.”
4. Her world gets smaller
She spends time with people who care about her.
He grows get annoyed, makes comments, creates tension she can’t name.
She thinks: “Maybe I should stay home. It’s easier.”
5. Her needs get shamed
She asks for reassurance.
He rolls his eyes and says they’ve already talked about this. He asks why she needs that anyway.
She thinks: “I should be grateful for whatever I get.”
6. Her pain gets ignored
She cries.
She gets sick.
She needs help.
He’s unavailable, dismissive, ignoring her ask.
She thinks: “Maybe I’m the problem.”
7. Her identity blurs
She stops asking, stops sharing, stops dreaming, stops needing.
She thinks: “Maybe disappearing is safer.”
Then… Her strength whispers back
One day… she hears her own voice again.
She senses God’s calling again.
Feels the ache of everything she buried.
Realizes she wasn’t “too much.”
She was never allowed to be enough.
If any of this feels familiar, you’re not dramatic.
You’re not imagining it.
You’re waking up to the harm and waking up is the beginning of rebuilding and recovery.
