Last week I had a wonderful conversation during a personal training session. One of my clients was talking about church, and the topic of “just attending on Sundays” being enough. Can you fully live the life God has planned for you by doing the bare minimum? Faith by osmosis 🤷🏻♀️ I told this client I see the same thing in the gym all the time. People think showing up for an hour a couple days a week is enough. Never reaching for heavier weights, always cheating the range of motion. Making excuses every chance they get. Yet they are mad and disappointed when they aren’t seeing the results they want. They cheat their diet several times a week, and drink their calories in alcohol nightly or on the weekends. Fit by osmosis 🤷🏻♀️
The two scenarios are so similar. People want max results for minimum effort. Both of these things require you continually give more. In your faith, discipleship, prayer, reading the word, spending time with Him. In the gym, heavier weights, full range of motion, pushing to a higher level, and being disciplined with your nutrition.
Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus promises rest for those who are heavy-laden, offering an "easy" yoke and a "light" burden.
Work hard, be disciplined, and God will give you rest. If you train hard, pushing your body to new levels, the rest of the world will feel easy “light”. I’ve always felt like the pain I endure in the gym equips me for the trials of the world. This too applies in our faith. Break down, be vulnerable, grow in your knowledge of the word, and then you will be better equipped to handle the challenges that life throws at you.
Happy Sunday everyone. Take a moment today to question your efforts, and ask if you have been doing faith/fitness with your all, or could you be committing yourself more.
