WEEK 2 MIDDLE SCHOOL TOP 10s — FLORIDA FLYRA CROSS COUNTRY

Two of the twenty kids on these lists raced last weekend. One of them was Alice Ilea, and she won. Again.

Ilea drove to Vero Beach and took the Indian River Fairgrounds Invitational in 10:56.8, the fastest clock she's run this season. She's the only ranked runner on either list with two starts and two wins. Vero runs fast enough that the quicker time doesn't move her spot, but nobody in Florida middle school has had a better August.

At No. 1, Colette Heffernan is still the run of the season. Her 8:51 at Cecil Field was the fastest time by any middle schooler at that meet, boys included, and it projects twenty-one seconds clear of every other girl in the state. She's a seventh grader.

The boys list didn't move a single spot. Nobody in that ten has raced since August 22.

Half the state still hasn't opened. Ruckel, Sophia Underwood, Acadia Hassell, Belen and Ransom Everglades are all sitting on last November's times, and every one of those seeds is built to be beaten. Liam Jopling at No. 7 owns the fastest returning state time in Florida and hasn't run a step yet.

Congrats to Colette Heffernan Cecil Summer MS Champion being first overall runner to finish last night with a speedy course record of 8:51(minute faster than last year!) Plus she is #1 MS female!! Elliot Lasota }2 overall runner and #1 MS male!! So proud!! What a season you will have!!!
