NEW Partner Highlight! Last week, we enjoyed the sunny weather with Greater Albany Public Schools Community Transition Program!

This program provides life skill instruction, work skill development, and opportunities to explore hobbies and leisure activities for students ages 18 to 21 in both classroom and community sessions. On this trip, students rotated between kayaking with AWL and a birding walk with a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist! We had a great day with this group!

Image Descriptions:
1. 2 people in a tandem (2 person) kayak paddle with huge grins on their faces on a sunny day. Both people are wearing P-F-Ds (lifejackets).
2. 2 people in a tandem (2 person) kayak smile while sitting calmly and holding their paddles. The person in the back waves and both people are wearing P-F-Ds (lifejackets).
3. A group of people on a sunny day paddle kayaks away from the camera on a calm, tree-lined stretch of river. The nearest kayak has outriggers on the back to provide additional balance support.

A couple of weeks ago, we got out on Hagg Lake with the FGHS Partners' Class, an inclusive classroom for students with and without disabilities to learn more about disability and how to work together. Before our kayak trip together, AWL staff visit their classroom to discuss accessibility and share our adaptive equipment. We had a great day of learning new paddling skills and enjoying the sunshine!

Image Description: A group of students and guides in colorful tandem (two-person) and single kayaks on calm water, wave their hands and smile at the camera.

Brock (he/him) grew up in a watersports family, playing in the ocean and learning to slalom waterski as a kid. He has lived the seasonal guide life in Idaho, Hawaii, and Colorado and landed in Oregon in 2021, working as a ski patroller and in the whitewater industry. Brock is excited to bring his experience into adaptive and accessible recreation and we’re stoked to have Brock join our team!

You can expect to see Brock this summer on trips, around the warehouse and office, and everywhere in between. Welcome to the team!

Favorite trail snack: Reese’s Pieces. Secret talent: cooking on cast iron over an open fire. Favorite outdoor activities: Snowboarding, Surfing, and anything whitewater.” A speech bubble reads “Let’s swap adventure stories!”
