This week, we get to paddle with our long time partner The Companion Program! The Companion Program is a sister organization of AWL, providing opportunities for adults with disabilities to engage in meaningful community-based activities to encourage healthy and independent lifestyles.

Check out these throwback photos of kayaking trips over the years with The Companion Program! We're excited to get on the water again with this group!

Adventures Without Limits and Upstream Access partnered for an unforgettable weekend of camping, kayaking, and connection. During our weekend together, we learned about emergency preparedness, held connective conversations over meals, and laughed while we paddled on the water.

One participant shared โ€œI now know that we can still go camping and enjoy nature like we used to, and with the right equipment, it was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. To be with others getting back to an enjoyed activity made the experience more enjoyable.โ€

This is exactly why accessible outdoor experiences matter. Itโ€™s not just about getting outsideโ€”itโ€™s about finding your way back to the activities, places, and experiences that bring joy, connection, and a sense of possibility.

Image Descriptions:
1) A group poses in front of a wall of green trees for a picture. Everyone is smiling at the camera and one person is holding an Adventures Without Limits flag in the middle of the group.
2) Two people wearing red P-F-Ds are padding a yellow and blue tandem kayak. The water is calm and they are both holding paddles in their hands as they smile at the camera.
3) 7 people are sitting around a long picnic table under a wooden structure. There are craft supplies on the red checkered table cloth in front of everyone. People are turned towards the end of the table, smiling at the camera.
4) A kayaker wearing a red P-F-D and large brimmed sunhat paddles in a blue and white kayak. The water is calm, the edges of the water are lined with green trees, and the sky is clear and blue.
5) There are camp chairs and large camping tents set up in a grassy field. There are tall green trees surrounding the campsite.

August has been full of camping trips! A couple weeks ago, we camped at South Beach Oregon State Parks in Newport in partnership with Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection and Empowering Access. We enjoyed cooler weather on the coast and time together kayaking, eating good food, and chatting around a campfire.

We have one more camping trip with Oregon Spinal Cord Injury Connection September 25th-27th! Learn more & register at oregonsci.org/calendar

We're still reeling from the good vibes of our 2nd annual Community Lake Day, but in true AWL fashion, we'll be outdoors all week again - camping, paddleboarding, and building community. Shoutout to our partners at Sammy's Place - learn, grow and thrive and Friends of the Children - Portland!
