Well, today was the first day since March that something “fishing” wasn’t the #1 priority. Slept in a little, mowed and trimmed 3 lawns, washed and cleaned the truck, cleaned a little in the office, did a few NYT crossword puzzles to catch up, had breakfast at my favorite place, got stuff together to get the pontoon in the water tomorrow and started outlining Walleye Zone content for July…..riding the tractor was pretty therapeutic – got to think a little, reflect and reset for the upcoming summer season.
As I did, I looked back on the 2026 Detroit River season. Wanted to send a big “THANK YOU” to everyone who booked a trip, watched a live report, waved on the river or just said “hey” as we passed. It was a pretty good season on the river. Caught some fish, enjoyed seeing old friends on the boat, met some new customers, got to be part of folks catching their first walleye or first fish ever, and was amazed again at the beauty, diversity, and production of the best river in the world!
Thanks to all of the charter captains who stayed in touch this year…..this is a BIG river and the walleyes move! It’s always nice to know that there is a network of amazing captains that are willing to help when needed. I would be missing someone if I tried to make a list, but you all know who you are. I am grateful for your friendship over the years and all the information we share. It is always good to see your name on the caller ID or to get a wave on the water. This is a FUN and REWARDING job, but it is tough, especially if you do it every day – I have a ton of respect for all of the captains on the river who are out here every day, in all kinds of weather, in good or bad bites……
Looking forward to a good summer on the Saginaw Bay, and a few new things planned for The Walleye Zone this summer.
Have a safe summer and may your nets be full!
