We are gearing up for the new school year and have one more exciting addition to our faculty to celebrate - new guest faculty member, Lucas! Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lucas began his dance training at 16. Just three years later, he joined Ballet Argentino, under the direction of Julio Bocca, and quickly rose to Principal Dancer.

Lucas has been a dancer with The Washington Ballet, Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, and The Joffrey Ballet, where for six seasons he performed Soloist and Principal roles in an wide range of repertoire, including iconic works by leading choreographers such as George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, Christopher Wheeldon, Wayne McGregor, Alexei Ratmansky, William Forsythe, Val Caniparoli, Yuri Possokhov, and Annabelle Lopez Ochoa.

His career has taken him around the globe, gracing the stage in 450 cities worldwide. In addition to his classical and contemporary work, Lucas has performed in several musical theatre productions, including “West Side Story” at Drury Lane Theatre, and the Broadway productions of “An American in Paris” and “Brigadoon.” His achievements have been recognized with the Premio Clarín, one of Argentina’s highest arts awards.

We look forward to having Lucas share his incredible experience and artistic eye with our students and are grateful to have him as part of the CBA family!

✨ Faculty Friday Spotlight: Anabelle de la Nuez ✨

Everyone loves an encore...so we are bringing you a special bonus Faculty Friday Spotlight!

We are thrilled to introduce our newest faculty member, Anabelle!

Anabelle’s love of dance is truly in her DNA. She was born into a dancing family. Her parents, Meridith Benson and Mario de la Nuez, are the founders of de la Dance Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Anabelle began her formal training at age six. Her sister Angelina currently dances with Grand Rapids Ballet, and her brother Michael dances with American Ballet Theatre.

She attended American Ballet Theatre’s summer intensive and competed at Youth America Grand Prix in 2018 and 2019, earning an invitation to the NYC finals both years. At just 17, Anabelle was offered a contract with The Joffrey Ballet. Now in her fifth season with the company, she has performed many leading roles including Marie in “The Nutcracker.”

Anabelle will be teaching Creative Movement, Ballet Beginnings, and Primary Ballet. What a treat to have a current professional ballerina leading the way as our youngest dancers take their first steps. We are sure her incredible talent, artistry, and enthusiasm will inspire the next generation. Please join us in welcoming Ms. Anabelle to the CBA family!

As the summer winds down, we are preparing for a bittersweet farewell to our incredible Ms. Ashley! For the past 2 years, she has brought immeasurable joy, enthusiasm, energy, and love to our community. We are grateful for all she has shared and for the beautiful way she has connected with the young dancers who have come through our doors. We know they will forever be inspired by Ms. Ashley’s passion for dance. We are going to miss her very much but are excited to cheer her on as she continues to grow Ashley J's Dance Center, the school she has created on the west side of Chicago. Please join us in a signature 3 big claps as we send all the good vibes for the next part of her journey. But don’t worry, it is never really goodbye for the CBA family! Ms. Ashley will always be a part of the heART of our school.

✨ Faculty Friday Spotlight: Maliwan Diemer ✨

We’re closing out our Faculty Friday Spotlight series with the heart and driving force behind CBA, our Artistic & Executive Director, Ms. Molly!

Molly began studying dance in Columbus, Ohio, at age three and continued her training abroad with RAD-certified teacher Ng Siew Fong. At thirteen, she was invited to study and perform with Indiana University Ballet Theater, where she trained with distinguished artists including Violette Verdy, Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Patricia McBride, Jacques and Virginia Cesbron, and Leslie Peck.

Molly has served on faculty at The Chicago High School for the Arts, the Lou Conte Dance Studio, and the Joffrey Academy of Dance and is currently on faculty at Visceral Dance Center. She has taught company class for DanceWorks Chicago, Deeply Rooted Dance Theater, and Visceral Dance Chicago. Molly’s arts administration experience includes leadership roles at Hubbard Street’s Lou Conte Dance Studio, Chicago Public Schools, and The Theatre School at DePaul University. She holds an M.A. in Arts Administration and a B.S.O.F. in Ballet and Political Science, magna cm laude, both from Indiana University.

Fun fact - Molly was a professional ballroom dancer! She is a 2-time U.S. National Rising Star Smooth finalist and U.S. National 10-Dance finalist.

Molly joined CBA in 2007 and became director in 2020. We are grateful for the vision, dedication, and joy she brings to our school every single day!
