Lewis County looked to extend their best start in over a decade on Friday as they hosted the BlueJackets of Nicholas County.
The Lions came into the game 2-0, getting their first wins since September of 2023 against West Carter and Morgan earlier this year.
Nicholas also looked to extend their undefeated start, coming into Vanceburg 2-0.
The football game, unfortunately, was slightly overshadowed during the matchup as rumors circulated the stands after Lewis County Schools posted an announcement on their page that a junvenille had be aprehended by officers on campus with a handgun. Shout out to the officials for their swift action, discreetness, and attention to the saftey of all in attendance.
Both teams would start the game slow, dealing with the heat and sweltering humidity. Nicholas would score first, and put two more touchdowns on the board before Lewis would find the endzone late in the 4th to get 6 on the board.
Lewis would then attempt and recover an on-side kick to start their next drive down the field as the game clock winded down. That drive would be throttled, however, when Ty Simons would pick off a pass and the Jackets offense would take the field in victory formation, extending their undefeated season, 20-6.
Lions stats were not available at the time of this post.
