On Saturday, April 11th, we hosted our second NRA Women On Target for the year.

The weather was looking a bit dicey leading up to the big day, seeing possible rain and even lightning coming in. Alas, the weather forecasts changed daily, becoming less and less menacing and finally we had a beautiful sunny, sometimes cool and breezy day. Perfect for us!

18 ladies attended, some who had joined us before, some first time shooters and everyone's favorite lady, Miss Sylvia, who wanted to learn about gun safety at a young age of 92. We all adored you Sylvia! You amazed us all.

Thank you to all of our volunteer mentors for giving your best in time and attention to these ladies. The big smiles they took home with their certificates is a clear testimony to how awesome you all are.

South Bay Rod and Gun Club celebrated Valentines Day by holding the first Women On Target class of 2026. ❤️

Ladies came out to learn about fi****ms safety and the basic fundamentals of handling three different guns, and the fun and challenge of shooting at various types of targets.

It was a fantastic day and everyone had a great time. Many thanks to our mentors who helped make this a memorable day for these ladies. Thank you to everyone for choosing to spend your Valentines Day with us.

Our next class is on April 11th. Registration will open up on our website on March 12th.

Women On Target, September 13th closed out yesterday with.........lotsa bangs!! 😎

21 ladies made it out to our wonderful property on a picture perfect day, to learn the fundamentals of safety and marksmanship. Most importantly the universal rules of safety:

1. ALWAYS treating fi****ms as if they're loaded,
2. ALWAYS keeping them pointed in a safe direction (don't point them at anything you're not willing to destroy)
2. ALWAYS keeping fingers off the trigger until making the conscious decision to shoot (and finger off the trigger BEFORE coming off the target "after that amazing shot!")
4. ALWAYS keeping the gun unloaded until ready to shoot

We had a full team of the most dedicated and enthusiastic Mentors, many of them veterans of our program, but also a few first timers who are now part of our W.O.T. family. (Thank you for being on hand!)

Their feedback afterwards was extremely positive from their experience in working with such an amazing group of women. Thank you to ALL of our mentors who came out and helped make the day so fantastic!

Our next and final class for 2025 is on November 22nd. Registration begins 30 days prior on our website.

Women On Target by the NRA and South Bay Rod and Gun Club

What an outstanding day we had today!

23 women came to our range and spent the day learning all about firearm safety, range safety, and a few specific types of guns, and then spent the afternoon practicing all of the fundamentals of shooting handguns, rifles and shotguns. It was a great opportunity for brand new and newer shooters to test their skills and see what this Second Amendment and shooting sports life is all about.

It was fun! It was challenging! We were proud of everyone who attended and tried implementing the teachings while focusing on being SAFE, and we got to observe moments when these ladies proved to themselves that even if it's a little scary or intimidating to start, small successes can lead to great confidence.... and big smiles!

Our mentors are, without question, the best of the best and we had 24 of them with us today. Thank you to everyone who dedicated their time to make this day a success. You're all appreciated more than you know, by the club and definitely by your students. Thank you all!

This is a great introductory class for brand new and newer shooters. We teach handgun, rifle and shotgun in a 4 hour class with one on one coaching and we supply the guns and ammo.

Our 2025 pre-Mother's Day Women On Target class is complete!

We had some toasty temps today but even though it was like a summer day, we had just enough of a breeze to create personal air conditioning once the sweating kicked in. (Thank you everyone for wearing deoderant).

We owe a debt of gratitude or our trap range mentors because they had more time in the sun than anyone else today. Even the three giant Costco bags of ice keeping 120 bottles of water cold, barely survived the day, but that water stayed good and refreshing!

We were joined by Larry the Lizard during our safety briefing and fi****ms overview which we conducted for the first time in our Quonset hut on the upper parking lot. Larry was the perfect gentleman the whole time, seeming to enjoy our company, and welcomed us graciously in his coveted lounge.

Many, many thanks to Jeff Maynard for this brilliant "classroom" idea and many more thanks for getting it prepped and ready ahead of time.

We appreciate all of the ladies who came prepared for the weird springtime heat and really knocked the safety and shooting skills out of the park. We loved your success today!

Three cheers for all of our mentors who showed up smiling and made the day work like a well oiled machine.

Our next class will be on July 12th. Hopefully, the weather will be cool and forgiving.
