Last night we closed out a very successful 2025 season with the team banquet. Huge thanks to Brynt and Kristie for all their time and effort coaching and supporting me in my distracted disorganized style. Also to the parents for their endless support and spoiling them with treats and meals.

This season was supposed to be a rebuild, but this group of young women, many playing for their first time, came inches away from winning the first outright league title in over 20 years. It was a joy to coach such enthusiasm. 14-3 overall, 9-0 reg season NET league champs, NET tourney runners up.

The success did not just come from varsity or those awarded below, the JV squad often goes unacknowledged, but they are ones who helped push the varsity to their levels from the bottom up. This team will be very dangerous next year and is in great hands for years to come.

Saying goodbye to our lone senior was not easy… in addition to being the captain and glue of this young group, Abigail had what was arguably one of, if not the most, successful senior seasons and careers in Chipp history. Four years at first singles, and a career record of 76-22. Senior season - 25-3 record and undefeated reg season, 12-0 in the NET and league singles champion. Paired with Clara in the state tourney, qualified for districts and earned a fantastic first round win over Hawken, and were one win away from state.

Individual awards:
Abigail Sines - MVP and all time varsity wins leader -76
Clara Kirkhart - MVP
Emma Kirkhart - Coach’s Award
Makenzie Dulin - Most Improved
Tori King - Carl Dulin Leadership Award
Aaliyah Gump - Most Improved JV

Districts day 2… Abby and Clara suffered a heartbreaking 6-7(3) 5-7 loss to CVCA in the backdraw playoff this morning. It couldn’t have really been any tighter… anybody’s match from literally the first point to the last.

Playing on Championship Saturday is a priveledge not many players earn. Abby has now qualified twice and this was Clara’s first trip. Together they finished in the top 8 doubles teams in NEO. The absolute best of D1 and D2 and levels of HS tennis play that have to be seen to be believed. The top 3 D2 schools accounted for 7 of the 10 state spots. And the D1 teams are happy they didnt have to play them.

These two fine young women never backed down and represented the school and community with class, style, pride, and good sportsmanship.

Thanks again to the great crowd of friends and family who were there to support them this morning.

NEO Districts day 1! Abby and Clara came in just 2 match wins from a state berth. They played a really solid, problem solving first match against Hawken, winning 6-3 7-6(5). Hawken has been a district nemesis the last 3 times we’ve played there, so this one felt good. Next up, in the round of 8, was the defending state champs from Gilmour Academy… that one did not end in our favor 😉

Tomorrow morning they battle with 3 other teams for the 5th state spot. They will play CVCA at 8:30 am at Springside.

So proud of these two! A fun long day of the best tennis in NEO (and prob strongest district in the state) and we were right there scrapping it out with them. Pretty cool…

Let’s go Lady Chipps!!

P.S. Huge thanks to all the friends, family, and Coach Rob from Canton South (the girls loved seeing you there - NET PRIDE!) who were there to support them! Means so much to all of us!

A great showing today for Abby and Clara as they finish 3rd at the Wooster Sectional. The semifinal pitted them against a Pepper Pike Orange team whose entire season is spent battling the best in the state… and the girls played the best tennis of their lives and pushed new limits in a cliched “tighter than the score looks” 6-3 6-0 loss. It was really fun to watch and there were some amazing points and tight games. It’s very clear their regular season schedule was much too soft. A very proud coach.

In the consolation final, the girls rolled to a 6-1 6-0 victory over the top two Triway singles players.

Next up is Districts, with the top 16 teams in NEO at Springside Racket Club. Brackets and matchup will be released early next week.

State sectionals day at the College of Wooster. 16 area (sorta..) teams, tons of sun and so many matches. The girls had a great day of competition, and the younger players got a real taste of the levels of play and we all just enjoyed each other’s company on a long beautiful day.

Abby & Clara, the #3 seed out of 34 doubles teams, move on to the semifinals which will be played Thursday at 1:00. They will face Pepper Pike Orange, who as the top seed in NEO, chose to play in wooster. Wish them luck, and congratulations to them for qualifying for district play next Friday! An honor to be one of the top 16 doubles teams in all of NEO, the deepest section of tennis in Ohio, where Division 2 is prob stronger than Division 1.

Let’s go Lady Chipps!

Senior night for Abby! And the Chipps hang on to defeat Norton 4-1 in another sectionals lineup shuffle. Great play on single every court. Afterwards we had fun celebrating Abby’s career as a teammate and friend. She will be missed for sure and we can’t wait to see where the world takes her. Her future is bright for sure!

Northeast Tennis League (NET) Tourney day at the College of Wooster! 10 teams, 70 players and 75 matches of great tennis in gorgeous (but hot!) weather. The Lady Chipps came in as the regular season champs with a 9-0 record, but we knew it would take a perfect day to win the tournament too. Very proud of this young group as they battled for a runner up tournament and an overall runner up finish. This hard working crew turned what was supposed to be a “building year” into a heck of a season.

Huge congrats to Abby for varsity win #70, an to Rosie for #10!!

Chipps lose a tough one tonight to Wooster by a score of 1-4. A great deep team that pushed us exactly when we needed it, but painful because this one was within reach. The lone court win was also definitively Abby’s best career tennis (and win #66!!) in a problem solving 3 set come from behind win against one of the best players in our area. I didn’t nickname her “Abacus” for nothing… she almost always calculates a solution (yes, I think I’m clever). Clara was just a bit outhustled in a great long rally battle at second singles. Emma played against her future self in an aggressive experienced hitter. Mak and Tori played some great consistent tennis but were a bit less aggressive than they wanted and needed. Mila and Rosie continue to improve and tune up for the league tourney Thursday.

Lady Chipps drop their first match of the season 2-3 against a deep Lake squad in a lineup shakeup giving the girls a break and honing different skills. Tori battled back from second set nerves to pull out a clutch third set. In a preview of post season tournament play, Ab and Clara paired up and looked sharp against their first and third singles who have spent the past 3 seasons playing doubles together.

Tonight the Lady Chipps finished as regular season Northeast Tennis (NET) League champions at 9-0!! 🎾🎾

They pulled out a very tight 3-2 victory over a Canton South squad who’s been on quite a roll the last few years. As if both teams coming in at 8-0 and having the match tied at 2-2 wasn’t dramatic enough, the deciding match hung from Emma Kirkhart’s racket as she battled on and on for almost 3 hours in an epic third singles victory. She just never quits!

We walk away winning this battle with a terrific win, but tomorrow we’re right back in the lab working on preparations for the league tourney next week.

So proud of this entire crew! Let’s go!!!
