NARA ANNOUNCES EXPANSION INTO LIMITED MODIFIEDS AND LIMITED MIDGETS
National Auto Racing Association Continues Growth with Two New Divisions for 2026 and beyond
MATTOON, IL — The National Auto Racing Association (NARA) is proud to announce the expansion of its sanctioning portfolio with the addition of two new divisions: NARA Limited Modifieds and NARA Limited Midgets.
Since its relaunch, NARA has focused on creating opportunities for racers, tracks, and fans through affordable competition, consistent rules, and meaningful championship programs. The addition of these two classes represents another major step forward in the organization's vision for the future of grassroots dirt track racing.
The NARA Limited Modified division has been developed with a focus on bringing greater consistency and stability to the popular B-Modified style of racing. Across the country, competitors often face differing rules packages, technical specifications, and interpretations from track to track. NARA aims to provide a unified rules platform that allows racers to compete at multiple facilities without the burden of extensive modifications to their race cars.
"We believe racers deserve consistency," said Dewain Hulett, President and Co-Founder of NARA. "Our goal is to create a rules package that keeps costs under control, promotes competitive racing, and allows racers to travel between tracks and regions with confidence."
In addition to Limited Modifieds, NARA is also introducing the NARA Limited Midget division. Built around affordable engine options and common-sense technical regulations, the division is designed to reignite interest in what many longtime racers remember as the "D2 Midget" concept.
For decades, limited midget racing served as an affordable entry point into the world of open-wheel dirt racing. NARA believes there is a strong demand to bring that style of racing back to prominence throughout the Midwest and beyond.
"The Limited Midget division is something we're incredibly excited about," said Brian Rieck, Vice President and Co-Founder of NARA. "There was a time when D2-style midget racing had tremendous momentum, and we believe the market is ready for its return. By utilizing affordable engine packages, a right rear spec tire, and sensible rules, we're creating a division that can grow at local tracks while also giving racers the opportunity to compete for state and national championships."
The new NARA Limited Midget rules package will feature both traditional automotiautomotive-powered combinations and chain-drive motorcycle-powered combinations under one unified division, creating flexibility while maintaining competitive balance.
Debut Events Scheduled at Coles County Speedway
Both divisions will officially make their NARA debut at Coles County Speedway during the 2026 racing season.
The NARA Limited Modifieds will make their first appearance on Sunday, June 7, as part of the speedway's new Sunday night racing program.
The NARA Limited Midgets will debut during what is expected to be one of the most meaningful events of the season, Stars, Stripes & Survivors. The special event weekend will benefit breast cancer awareness while supporting one of the racing community's own, Melissa Shain, in her fight against breast cancer.
The Stars, Stripes & Survivors weekend is expected to attract racers and fans from across the Midwest while shining a spotlight on an important cause that impacts countless families throughout the racing community.
"Racing has always been about family," said Rieck. "Launching the NARA Limited Midgets during Stars, Stripes & Survivors is the perfect way to introduce this division. We're not only building something exciting for racers, but we're also coming together to support Melissa and raise awareness for a cause that touches so many lives."
Both divisions will be eligible for NARA-sanctioned competition, state championships, national points programs, and future point fund opportunities.
NARA officials are currently working with track operators, racers, manufacturers, and industry leaders as the organization prepares for the continued expansion of both divisions throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Additional information regarding rules packages, championship programs, memberships, and participating facilities will be announced in the coming weeks. Rulles for each division can be found on the NARA website at www.nararacing.com
