⏳ Throwback Opening Day! ⚾
As our ballplayers get ready to hit the dirt at Stevens Field for Opening Day this Saturday, we’re taking a look back at where Diamond Bar baseball first began 60 years ago!
Check out this vintage 1966 newspaper photo of local players Scott Shaw and Jeff Lambert dusting off home plate in preparation for their upcoming season.
Fast History Facts from 1966:
📸 Dusting Off the Plate: Mr. Gordon Shaw of Transamerica Development Co., who helped make the original diamond possible, pictured with players and League Auxiliary President Mrs. Robert Simpson.
🤝 Community Support: The Diamond Bar Woman’s Club presented a $300 sponsorship check to help fund equipment and charter fees for the growing league.
🧢 180 Ballplayers: In just its second year, the league expanded to host 180 local youth!
Just as community members came together 60 years ago to build fields and sponsor teams, DBPB relies on that same volunteer spirit today.
We can't wait to see all of our families out at the fields this Saturday as we kick off another fantastic Fall season! 💜💛
