Today, the NASW Colorado Chapter recognizes and honors Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States and marks an important milestone in our nation’s ongoing pursuit of freedom, justice, and equity.

Juneteenth serves as both a celebration of resilience and a reminder of the lasting impact of slavery and systemic racism. As social workers, we are called to advance social justice, challenge inequities, and uphold the dignity and worth of every person. The significance of Juneteenth aligns closely with our profession’s commitment to human rights, equity, and the well-being of all communities.

On this Juneteenth, we honor the strength, contributions, and enduring legacy of Black Americans, while reaffirming our responsibility to help build a more just and inclusive society.
