It’s not a comfort issue, it’s a combat capability issue that affects cognition, lethality, mission success, and survivability. Proper load carriage brings you home safe.

I’m actively looking for a grant or funding, for a biomechanics lab or student who can validate the combat performance impact of carrying weight on your shoulders vs carrying weight on your hips.

Archangle Armor commissioned a study about 2013 that showed promising results. We did our own study last summer and found compelling results. The impact of equipment weight has been widely studied, but I haven’t seen Orr, Knapik, Natick, or other professionals/labs look at “Hip vs Shoulders.”

The next step to issuing the best gear to US Soldiers is a formal study by a recognized lab, run by a biomechanics professional. Can you help move the needle with an introduction, grant, a lab, or?

Carrying weight on your shoulders and chest, while tolerable, grinds you down faster, degrading your body and your mind, putting you at risk. If you can’t use the waist belt, your pack is out dated.
