Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend himself against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. It contains stand-up maneuvers, but it is most famous for its devastating ground-fighting techniques. Gaining superior positioning—so one can apply the style’s numerous chokes, holds, locks and joint manipulations on an opponent—is the key in BJJ.

Got creaky knees? So many people complain about knee pain and it can be very limiting. It's not the end of the line though.

Many things can be done to help improve knee function! Avoiding use or resting is NOT the answer.

If you are dealing with the myriad of bugs going around at the moment, you are very likely struggling with sinus congestion or will be soon.

Did you know that holding your breath following a few deep breaths in and out through your nose can help to alleviate some of the sinus pressure?

Holding our breath drastically increases nitric oxide (NO) production in our nasal passages and sinuses. NO acts as a vasodilator, meaning it causes our smooth muscle cells to relax and leads to widening of blood vessels, increased blood flow and decreased blood pressure; all of this supports opening of our airways.

This is a natural way to help reduce some of the sinus congestion you may be feeling. While multiple rounds in a row will maintain longer relief, if that's not possible, you can perofmr this technique whenever and wherever you choose.

After completing the ATG L1 Coaching Certification and the Women’s Coaching Specialist Certification, I am excited to launch my personal training and nutrition coaching services.

I've been a student of nutrition and various training modalities for decades but am only now bringing my knowledge to support women in person and virtually who want to build strength that will carry them through life and provide the ability to meet the demands they put on their bodies.

Personally, I train and nourish my body so that I can do jiu-jitsu well into old age.

I started training back in 2022 after spraining my LCL during a sparring round at jiu-jitsu, following decades of other training styles. I firmly believe the three years of incorporating even the very basic programming of ATG saved me from a complete knee blowout during a competition in 2025.

That convinced me that EVERYONE participating in a grappling sport, particularly those of us in the over 40 crowd, would benefit from this training modality. Thus I rigorously pursued and completed my Level 1 certification in January.

I'm thrilled to bring ATG to the BJJ community and women more broadly who are looking for not only strength but the ability to move and function pain free.
