SPiN Chicago turns table tennis into a night out on State Street, and the floor beneath the tables has to serve both the game and the evening around it.

The playing area is Thor Performance Vinyl in Taupe. Table tennis calls for quick, light footwork rather than heavy impact, which makes a cushioned performance vinyl the natural choice. A foam backing runs across the entire floor, keeping players sure-footed through every rally while softening sound underfoot, and the surface stays easy to maintain from the first serve to last call.

The right floor starts with the right conversation. Share your floor plan with us, and we will recommend a surface for every part of your space.

We floored Cedarville University’s weight training room wall to wall in Neoflex REPtiles, with the Yellow Jackets logo on every platform.

Tile was the right call for a floor with this much design in it. We mapped five colors onto the floor plan before install, so each tile went down holding its own piece of the layout, from the platform stripes to the sprint lane down the center. REPtiles are also easier to transport and install than similar rolled products, and they make it simpler to change the look or how the space is used later on.

Putting your logo in a weight room floor? Send us the artwork and the floor plan, and we will map the design tile by tile.

Hardwood and performance vinyl can look alike on a court, and both are built for basketball, volleyball, and multi-sport use. Which one fits usually comes down to the specific application, facility requirements, and budget.

Hardwood is a natural material with shock absorbing systems constructed underneath. Wood sports floors need to be installed in HVAC controlled spaces as wood will expand or contract depending on the humidity levels in a room. Screen and coats are part of regular maintenance, dictated by how high traffic an area is.

Performance Vinyl is a synthetic material with a foam backing across the entire floor. A serious benefit to vinyl is that you can clean it with water, allowing for a generally more hygienic space.

Building a gym or replacing a floor? We work with both, so tell us where the room is and how it gets used, and we will spec the right floor for it.

Under Armour's Performance Center in Hunt Valley, Maryland is floored in two Thor surfaces.

One is Thunder 40 turf, in silver. The face is a nylon blend over a foam cushion, soft enough underfoot to feel like a field and tough enough for sleds, sprints and everyday functional work.

The other is Thor Resi24, in a custom twenty percent blend. It runs a dense wear layer over sound and vibration reduction pads, so the noise and vibration from dropped weight stays in that room instead of moving through the building.

Putting turf and rubber in the same building? Send us the layout and we will spec where one ends and the other starts.

Williamsville North High School in Buffalo, NY, is the high school home of Rob Gronkowski. We floored its weight room in 3,852 square feet of Thor Pro Tile, a custom green speckle we blended to match the school’s colors.

Pro Tile is our beveled-edge modular rubber tile, a full inch thick at 24 by 24 inches, with an inner layer that keeps the corners from peaking. It is made for free weight areas and lifting platforms, and here it runs the length of the room, under the racks and out under the cardio.

Then there are the platforms. Each one carries a Spartan inlaid into the tile, almost five feet high, the largest that would fit.

Want your logo in the floor? Send us your colors and your artwork and we will blend the tile to match.

It started with Gold's Gym Crofton, Glen Burnie, and Ritchie Station which went in together, for one franchisee across Maryland.

Ten years later that Gold's Gym group has around 100,000 square feet of Thor Performance Turf in more than twelve gyms across two states. A blend of Thunder 55, Thunder 40, and our Portable Turf Panels, spec'd application by application.

Crofton shows what that looks like on the ground. An agility field indoors, a functional fitness space out front, five yard lines, hash marks and multi-color logos inlaid into the turf and shaped on site.

Have more than one gym to floor? Send us the floor plans and we will spec the turf for each one.

Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders put a two-story tube slide in the middle of its library. They came to us while it was still on paper, for the surface it lands on.

Thunder Play runs under the slide and across the play area, with a special turf finish we made for this space and spec'd to the fall height.

Fall height sets the thickness. The higher the drop, the thicker the surfacing has to be. Planning a slide, a climbing feature or a play area? Tell us what you are building and we will spec the surfacing to match.

Most gyms run one thickness across the whole floor. Different parts of the room do different work, so one number rarely fits all of it.

A quarter-inch for light duty use, or three-eighths inch for general fitness, cardio and machines, is a great starting point. Where weights get dropped, go to three-quarter inch or one inch thick with a hybrid acoustic layer. It dissipates more of the impact and protects the floor underneath.

You don’t need a thicker floor everywhere. You need it where the weight lands.

Not sure what your room needs? Tell us what gets lifted and dropped in each area and we will spec it.

Thunder 55 is one of the premium turfs in our lineup, and it's built for the work that puts a lot of strain on the floor, while being soft underfoot for stretching. A 55 oz nylon blend face over a 5mm PU foam cushion, heavy enough to take tires, sleds and ropes.

Durable and impact-resistant, available in Field Green and White, cut to length at a 15-foot roll width, with custom lengths shaped on-site to fit your facility. Made in the USA and backed by a 5-year warranty.

The Olympic sports weight room is usually the busiest floor in a college athletic department. Football has its own. Everyone else shares this one, all year, every year.

Temple University's is Thor Pro Tile in TPR 16, the beveled edge modular tile we developed back in the early 1990s, with an inner layer that keeps the corners from peaking under that kind of load. A Temple T marks every station.

Thunder 55 in green runs the turf lane.

Thirteen years under every program on campus.

Outfitting a varsity weight room? Tell us the programs that share it and we will spec the floor for the load and the hours.
