🌊 **ROUGH WATER WEEKEND — October 2–5, 2026** 🌊

Want to take your sea kayaking skills into bigger water, stronger wind, and more dynamic conditions?

Join us in the Apostle Islands for **Rough Water Weekend**, a 4-day mini sea kayak symposium for intermediate and advanced paddlers. It’s a chance to learn, practice, play, and challenge yourself alongside other paddlers who are looking to take their skills to the next level.

We’ll adapt the program to the conditions and may work on:

🌊 Surfing & rock gardening
🛟 Rescues in wind, waves, and caves
🔄 Rolling in rough water
🧭 Navigation, tides & expedition skills
💨 Towing in wind
🚣 Paddling and boat control in challenging conditions
…and plenty of time to learn from other experienced paddlers.

We'll make the most of whatever Lake Superior gives us and seek out the best learning opportunities around the Apostle Islands.

For eligible paddlers, the weekend can also include **ACA Level 4 Skills Assessment** or an **ACA Level 4 Instructor Update**.

Cornucopia has a population of 126 this year!

When you visit us its probably hard to imagine, but back in the 1910-20s Cornucopia WI was a hub of commercial fishing and logging. Lumberman Walter Flieth and fisherman Herman Ehlers founded the Flieth-Ehlers Mercantile Company on May 1, 1915, which evolved into Ehlers General Store and served as the town's core social and commercial hub.

By 1930 Cornucopia grew to 260 full time residents, with many more coming to work and visit.

Just yesterday the early 1900s came through town and reminded us of our 'recent' past history.

There is false information being spread about us and other outfitters via a page pretending to be the Apostle Islands.

Remember, outfitters are vetted by the National Lakeshore, and only those with good safety records are permitted.

If they aren't on that site but posing as having something to do with Apostle Islands and kayaking, beware, and do your research. You can talk to any legitimate business in our area to provide a reference.

What's going on with all the smoke in the ? 🌫️

No, there aren't any wildfires burning in the Apostle Islands. The smoke we're seeing is drifting in from large wildfires burning hundreds of miles away.

This is something new for us. While we've experienced a little haze in past summers, we've never had to cancel kayak trips because of poor air quality—until now.
