🏈 Preseason 5-Pack: College Football Win Total OVERS
With college football changing every year, I’m leaning on two things: proven coaches and experienced QBs. Here are my five preseason win-total overs:
Penn State OVER 9.5
New HC Matt Campbell brings experience — and plenty of familiar faces — including veteran QB Rocco Becht. Add in a favorable schedule that avoids several of the Big Ten’s best teams, and Penn State has a legitimate chance to be a playoff contender.
Virginia Tech OVER 6.5
James Franklin brings immediate energy to a program that needs it, along with former Penn State QB Ethan Grunkemeyer. In a wide-open ACC with plenty of winnable games, a fast start could make Virginia Tech one of the conference’s biggest sleepers.
Michigan State OVER 3.5
Pat Fitzgerald won 9–10 games at Northwestern, which tells you everything you need to know about his ability to coach. The roster may not be there yet, but I trust Fitzgerald to have this team playing hard, fast and disciplined enough to get to 4+ wins.
Oklahoma State OVER 5.5
Eric Morris brings QB Drew Mestemaker with him from North Texas. The 6’5” QB completed nearly 69% of his passes last season, and this Morris/Mestemaker offense averaged 45+ points per game. Now they enter the Big 12, where there should be opportunities to put up numbers. This could be one of the most entertaining offenses in the country.
Boise State OVER 7.5
QB Maddux Madsen returns with 26 career starts, along with a backfield duo that combined for 2,000+ scrimmage yards last season. Boise should also have one of the better defenses in the country. Outside of Oregon, the schedule is manageable. I see 9 wins here.
🎯 The theme: In today’s transfer-portal era, give me coaches with a proven history of winning — especially when they’re bringing along a QB they already know and trust.
