🦋 Butterfly Body Lock Defense Drill 🦋

Professor Brian shows a practical drill to defend and create offense when your opponent has a body lock in butterfly guard:

You start with butterfly hooks while your partner has the body lock.

Cover their elbows and lock your hands together.
Forward shift to create space and posture up.
Rock backwards onto your side to off-balance them.

Your partner’s goal is to keep you flat on your back and stop you from off-balancing them.
This is an excellent drill for building strong hand fighting, posture, and learning how to turn a defensive body lock situation into an opportunity to recover or sweep.

Switch roles often and stay active with your hands!

🌞 Day 5 Afternoon – Camp Wrap Up! 🌞

We kept things light in the afternoon with arts and crafts and a round of Bingo, followed by a pizza party to celebrate the week!

The most electric part of the day (and maybe the whole week) was the water balloon fight and wet sponge races — the kids had an absolute blast getting soaked!

We wrapped up camp by handing out certificates to all the campers. What a week!

Big thank you to Coach Renee, all the Counselors, and Miss Kari (our amazing photographer) for making this such a fun and memorable week for the kids. You all crushed it! 🙌

Phew… what a week!

🦋 Butterfly Guard Sit-Up Drill vs Body Lock 🦋

Professor Brian shows a great drill to improve your ability to recover and sit up from butterfly guard:
You start flat on your back with butterfly hooks while your partner has a body lock around you.

Your partner’s goal: Keep you flat on your back and prevent you from sitting up.
Your goal: Use a forward shift and sit up to break their body lock and regain an upright posture.

This drill helps develop strong hip movement, posture, and the ability to fight back up when someone is trying to pin you flat in butterfly guard.

Switch roles often and focus on staying tight with your hooks!

Concept Jiu-Jitsu Summer Camp! Day 5 - Morning🌅

We started the final day with a classic… Tug of War! Even the counselors jumped in and got competitive 😂

After that, we focused on teamwork with some fun challenges — the kids had to carry a balloon together without using their hands, and then we tied their feet together with flags for a group walking challenge. Lots of laughs and cooperation!

🦋 Butterfly Elevation Drill (Light vs Heavy) 🦋

Professor Brian shares a great conditioning and technique drill to improve your ability to elevate from butterfly guard:

Start in butterfly guard with double underhooks.

Round 1 (1 minute): Your partner stays light and puts their hands on the ground. Focus on clean technique and rolling backwards to elevate them.
Round 2 (1 minute): Same position, but now your partner gets heavy and actively tries to stop you. This is where the real work happens.

This is a brutal leg burner, but an excellent way to build the strength and timing to elevate your opponent even when they’re fighting against it.

Switch roles after each round!

Concept Jiu-Jitsu Summer Camp! Day 4 - Afternoon 🌞

The afternoon got off to a messy start with a team challenge called “How to Build a PB&J.” Let’s just say Coach Renee had to get her hands covered in peanut butter… it was chaos (in the best way) 😂

After the food fight, we moved into some solo drills focusing on rolls and sprawls, then finished the day with the most requested game....again...you guessed it… Dodgeball!

These kids are getting better every day — both on and off the mats.

🎉 Congratulations, Jesus! 🎉

Jesus earned his 2nd stripe on his white belt at Concept Jiu-Jitsu!

Earning that second stripe is a nice step forward — it shows consistency and that the work is starting to stick. Great job staying committed and putting in the effort on the mats.

Keep building on this momentum, Jesus. The foundation is coming together nicely!

Concept Jiu-Jitsu Summer Camp! Day 4 - Morning 🌅

We kicked things off with some solid technique work. The kids learned how to bridge and escape from mount, then reviewed the closed guard escape.

After that, we moved into double leg takedowns — they were starting to put it together nicely!

Before lunch, we had a fun team competition where the kids had to build the tallest structure using red solo cups, pretzels, and marshmallows. Little Melania was not happy with the outcome. 😂

🎉 Huge Congratulations, Gunnar! 🎉

Gunnar earned his first stripe on his white belt at Concept Jiu-Jitsu! ⭐

That first promotion is always a big deal. It’s the moment you realize all the hard work, showing up, and pushing through the tough days is actually paying off. Great job, Gunnar!

Keep up the momentum — this is just the start of a long and rewarding journey on the mats. 💪

🎉 Congratulations, Devin! 🎉

Devin earned his 2nd stripe on his white belt at Concept Jiu-Jitsu!

Devin is awesome. Life has a way of pulling him off the mats from time to time (job changes and all that), but like a homing pigeon, he always finds his way back — and we genuinely love having him here when he does.

After getting his stripe, he trained so hard he threw up 🤮. That’s the kind of “get after it” mentality we respect. 💪

Welcome back to the grind, Devin. Keep building!
