Did you know a horse can experience bleeding in the lungs during exercise without ever showing a visible nosebleed?

Exercise-Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage, or EIPH, occurs when tiny blood vessels in the lungs rupture during strenuous exercise, allowing blood to enter the airways.

For performance horse owners, it is important to know that the signs are not always obvious. A horse may cough or swallow after exercise, take longer to recover, tire sooner than expected, or simply not perform like themselves.

A change in performance is not always a training problem.

FLAIR® Equine Nasal Strips are a non-drug tool designed to support the nasal passages during exercise, helping reduce airway resistance. Research has also shown FLAIR Strips can help reduce the severity of EIPH.

The more we understand what is happening inside our horses during a run, the better decisions we can make for their health, training, and longevity. 🐴

Does your horse anticipate the barrel before you ask?

The breaking-off correction teaches your horse to stay patient, balanced, and wait for your cue instead of diving into the turn.

By making a small circle in the opposite direction just before the barrel, you help your horse:
• Stay in the pocket
• Stop dropping the shoulder
• Stay between your hands and legs
• Wait for your rate cue instead of guessing

The goal isn't to punish anticipation; it's to replace it with balance, softness, and trust in the rider.

💬 Have you ever used a breaking-off exercise with your horse? What changes did you notice?

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your horse is change the plan. 🐴💙

Horses are always communicating with their movement, confidence, responsiveness, and behavior. Good horsemanship means paying attention to those signals, even when they aren’t telling us what we hoped to hear.

Slowing down, changing an exercise, or taking a different approach doesn’t mean you’ve abandoned the goal. It means you’re building a partnership where your horse knows their voice matters. 🤝

What has your horse taught you by asking you to change the plan?

Looking for comfort, communication, and control in one thoughtfully designed bit? 👀🐴

The Rolux Lifesaver 726 features my signature iron-wrapped Lifesaver mouthpiece, designed to rest comfortably across the horse’s tongue. The 1-inch draw helps distribute pressure across the lips, tongue, and bars, while the 7-inch shank adds leverage for stopping control and supple turns.

It’s a versatile choice for timed-event competitors as well as riders who split their time between the arena and the trail. ✨

I recommend beginning with a two-finger curb adjustment and fine-tuning it for the feel your horse needs. My preferred flat-chain curb strap is also available as an option.

Your horse missed the pocket… now what? 👀

Before you immediately correct the turn, rewind the run. The real issue may have started several strides earlier.

Ask yourself:

⭐ Where were my eyes?
⭐ Did we approach on the intended line?
⭐ Was I centered in the saddle?
⭐ Did my cue come too early or too late?
⭐ Is this becoming a pattern, or was it one imperfect run?

A missed pocket isn’t just a mistake; it’s information. Take a moment to understand what caused it before deciding what your horse needs next. 🐴

The little things you ignore become the big things in a run.

That slight shoulder drift you didn’t fix.

The late cue you brushed off.

The inconsistent rate you told yourself was “fine.”

It all seems small… until you add speed.

Then suddenly:

Wide turns.

Missed pockets.

Knocked barrels.

Nothing new showed up in your run, you just felt everything you’ve been allowing in your training.

Which one are you? 👇

A️. Sit early and trust the rate

B️. Hold longer and shape the turn

Neither is “wrong”… but one might be holding you back. ❌

If your horse isn’t truly honest yet: Sitting early can feel like you’re giving up control.

If you’re always holding longer: You might be teaching them to rely on your hands instead of finding it on their own.

The goal isn’t just to get through the turn, it’s to have a horse that understands their job. 🐴✨

Drop your choice (A or B) below, and tell me: do you need more trust, or more handle right now? 👇

The right bit doesn’t create a better horse, it helps you communicate more clearly. 🐴

The 884 Pro Roper is a versatile bit for horses with a solid foundation in neck reining. It can be especially helpful for barrel horses that are running through the bit, feeling heavy in your hands, or struggling to rate before a turn.

Some riders even use a stronger bit like the Pro Roper during warm-up to reinforce responsiveness, then switch back to their regular barrel bit before making a run. Every horse is different, and the right approach depends on that individual horse.

The best bit isn’t the one everyone else is using. It’s the one that matches your horse’s strengths, weaknesses, and level of training. The most effective communication always comes from knowledgeable hands. 🤎

Timers can tell you more than just your speed ⏱️🐎

They help riders:
• Track consistency
• Measure improvement
• Fine-tune timing
• Build confidence through repetition
• See what is actually working in training

Sometimes the smallest improvements are the ones that create the biggest changes over time.

Having a timer at home can turn everyday practice sessions into more intentional, productive rides instead of just “making runs.”

The Rodeo Timer Package from Barrel Racing Superstore is a great setup for riders wanting to bring more structure and feedback into their training routine. ✨
