Collection is not slowing down.
It is preparing for power.

A collected horse is balanced, engaged, and ready to move with intention.
When a horse learns to carry themselves correctly, they can turn harder, leave stronger, and stay confident through the pattern instead of falling apart under speed.

True collection creates:
• Better balance
• More control
• Faster turns
• Stronger exits
• More confidence

The goal is not to hold your horse back.
The goal is to help them move in a way that supports power and longevity. 🐎✨

Summer heat can take more out of your horse than many riders realize ☀️🐎

When temperatures rise, horses lose important electrolytes through sweat, especially during hauling, long exhibitions, jackpots, rodeos, and intense training sessions.

Without proper hydration support, you may notice:
• Fatigue
• Slower recovery
• Muscle tightness
• Decreased performance
• Loss of focus or energy

Water matters, but replacing electrolytes matters too.
Helping your horse stay properly hydrated can support stamina, recovery, muscle function, and overall performance during the hottest months of the year.

One option I like during the summer season is Equithrive Electrolyte Pellets. They are an easy way to help support hydration and electrolyte balance for hardworking horses. ✨

The best runs start long before the alleyway, and proper care behind the scenes is part of keeping horses feeling their best all summer long.

Signs your timing is improving 👀🐎

✅ Your horse starts responding to lighter cues: You are no longer having to over-pull, over-kick, or repeat yourself constantly.

✅ The pattern feels smoother instead of faster: Good timing usually feels calm and connected before it feels fast.

✅ Your horse stays more relaxed through the run: Better timing creates clarity, and clear horses tend to stay more confident.

✅ You stop reacting late to every turn: Instead of scrambling to fix things, you start setting your horse up earlier and more intentionally.

✅ Your horse begins to trust your cues: When your timing becomes consistent, your horse starts anticipating with confidence instead of anxiety.

Fast runs are built from hundreds of well-timed moments most people never notice ✨

You don’t get a better run by asking for more.
You get it by being understood 🤍

A connected horse knows where to be, when to be there, and stays with you through every part of the pattern.

A pushed horse is guessing.

And guessing creates inconsistency.

If something feels off, it is usually not a lack of effort.
It is a lack of clarity.

Build the connection first 🐎✨
Everything else gets easier from there.

Timing is everything ⏱️ and when it’s off, your horse feels it immediately.

Cueing too late often shows up as
• Missed spots at the barrel
• A rushed or stiff turn
• Having to fix things mid-run
• Loss of rhythm through the pattern

When your timing improves, everything else starts to fall into place 🤍

Slow, correct work is where great runs are built.

When you take the time to do things right, you create a horse that understands, responds, and stays consistent under pressure.

The speed will come, but only if the foundation is there.

Are your hands getting in your horse’s way?

Your best runs happen when your horse can move freely, stay balanced, and respond to your body.

If you’re riding more with your hands than your seat, you may be interrupting that balance without realizing it.

Here are 4 signs 👇

- Head tossing when you rate

When you sit for rate, your horse should begin to shorten their stride, bring their inside hind up under themselves, and prepare for the turn.
If the head comes up or there’s resistance, your hands may be getting involved too soon.

- You’re always fixing the front end

If you feel like you have to hold or place your horse, they’re likely not engaging from behind and carrying themselves correctly.

- Losing shape in the turn

Too much hand can push that shoulder out and disconnect the body. Instead of guiding the turn, you end up trying to hold it together.

- You can’t maintain collection without your hands

Your horse should respond to your seat and body first. Your hands should support—not create—that collection.

Try this:
Next time you work, focus on sitting and letting your body ask first.

Your horse should begin to rate by shortening stride and preparing for the turn, before your hands ever step in.

If that response is missing, that’s where the training belongs.
