The Barn Riding Lessons

I had a mom change stirrups and bridles between weekly lessons because her boyfriend told her to.

You pay for the education, but you don’t use it 😵‍💫

PARENTS!! When the instructor adjusts your kid’s stirrups because they’re too long and your kid is struggling to post the trot correctly, or stay seated correctly, DO NOT LET THEM LENGTHEN THEM.

I’ve run into this a couple times where I adjust their stirrups and they complain about it. I tell them it’s for safety and so they can improve their time because they’ll be able to ride better. But when I see them at the next show, their stirrups are long, toes are pointed down and they’re back to struggling, sliding around and knocking barrels and poles. I then get a glare from them when they stomp out of the holding pen as if it was my fault.

For me, this is reason enough to not continue working with your kid. Why? Because I’m wasting my time. Not only am I wasting my time, it also hurts my business when you tell others who your kid got lessons from and they’re not listening to what I say and move their equipment back to being unsafe. I will not attach my name to that.

So if you want your kids to improve, make them listen. If they disregard their instructors or readjust their tack back to it being a safety issue, give them consequences for it.

If your kids don’t what to listen and think they know better, they can fail on their own or you as parents can step up. Instructors can only do so much if you aren’t willing to back them up and be a parent.

I love this life. I really do. But some days I genuinely don’t know how I’m going to make it all work. 😂

Between work, family, finances, responsibilities and trying to squeeze in a little time for myself, keeping horses in my life can feel like a full-time job on top of my actual full-time job.

And I know I’m not the only one.

If you’re new here, welcome. This is a place for adult amateurs who are trying to figure out how to make our horse girl dreams work with our very adult lives.

The wins, the struggles, the questionable financial decisions and everything in between.

Raise your hand if you absolutely love this life, but some days have NO idea how you’re going to keep making it all work. 🙋‍♀️

I work with so many horse and rider duos where at least one of them is tight, tense, anxious or stressed.

Truth is, it’s usually us.

This is why I created the Stable Yoga Academy - it give you the framework, the steps and the options to calm both you and your horse in any situation.

Now, I’m bringing in person classes back to my barn for anyone who wants the whole farm experience. Chicken yoga and all!

This is a unique, beginner friendly, slow paced class where you will take home the tools to calm your nerves, sleep better, truly feel what’s happening in your body and have a better sense of self.

These classes will be small, preregistration only and weather permitting.

I have clientele with all levels of dreams.

I have considerable experience in multiple disciplines.

I know not everyone wants to compete and I can help you become a better horseman.

I know what it takes for parents to help their kids have a family horse or a competitive horse.

We are in the competitive horse stage with my daughter.

We have a strong crew of people that are invested in her. I am so thankful to get the videos because they are very helpful.

The videos in the comments are of the same run from round three at the CRRA finals.

We critique and plan off these videos. The people that take them know how important they are to make adjustments.
