The US National Weather Service Charleston WV has issued a Heat Advisory for Kanawha County through 6 PM today. Heat index values up to 100° are expected.

Beat the heat with these simple precautions:

NEVER FORGOTTEN: March 7, 1906
Firefighter John William Cabell

Firefighter Cabell died from the injuries he sustained when the chemical engine he was riding on collided with a street car while responding to a fire. Chief White and Firefighter Amos were badly injured.

Seventy-seven years ago, seven Charleston firefighters answered a call they would never return from.

This morning, we gathered at the former site of the Woolworth Department Store to remember their sacrifice and honor a service forever woven into the history of the Charleston Fire Department and our city.
