Another successful day of Middle School Open Gym. Next week Tuesday will be moved back to 12:15-1:30 due to coaching staff running a camp at the YMCA. Thursday we will be back to our normal Tuesday/Thursday 10:15-11:30 time slot.

Centerville Big Red Senior Malachi Rice has been named Iowa Class 2A Mr. Basketball by IABasketball, a tremendous honor recognizing the top player in the state.

Malachi’s dedication, leadership, and relentless work ethic have set the standard all season long. This achievement is a reflection of countless hours in the gym, commitment to his teammates, and a passion for the game that never wavers.

From big moments to consistent excellence, Malachi represented our program, school, and community at the highest level.

Malachi Rice Earns IAHSAA All-State Honors, Named Class 2A Player of the Year

Centerville Big Red standout Malachi Rice has been recognized among the top high school basketball players in the state following a remarkable season on the court. Rice was named IAHSAA 2nd Team All-State, while also earning First Team honors from High School Sports on Sports Illustrated. Highlighting his standout year, he has additionally been named the High School Sports on Sports Illustrated Class 2A Player of the Year.

Rice played a pivotal role in leading the Big Reds throughout the season, showcasing a dynamic all-around game that consistently impacted both ends of the floor. Known for his scoring ability, court awareness, and defensive presence, Rice proved to be one of the most versatile and dependable players in Iowa high school basketball.

His selection to the IAHSAA All-State team places him among the state’s elite, while recognition from Sports Illustrated further underscores the significance of his performance on a larger stage. Being named Class 2A Player of the Year distinguishes Rice as the top player in his classification, recognizing his leadership, consistency, and overall excellence.

Malachi Rice Named Class 2A–6 All-Substate

Centerville Big Red standout Malachi Rice has been named to the Class 2A–6 All-Substate Team, recognizing his outstanding performance and leadership throughout the season.

Rice played a major role in the success of the Big Reds this year, consistently leading the team with his scoring ability, defensive intensity, and all-around play. His hard work, determination, and competitive drive made him one of the top players in the state and a key piece of Centerville’s success on the court.

Throughout the season, Rice demonstrated the ability to impact the game in multiple ways—whether it was attacking the basket, knocking down big shots, or stepping up defensively when the team needed it most.
