Good luck, good shooting and shoot 'em all to all of our CFGC members at State!
'Twas the night before State Shoot, and all through the grounds,
Not a shotgun was firing, there weren't any sounds.
The trap houses stood waiting, machines freshly tuned,
For the best week in Iowa would be starting soon.
The campers were parked with their awnings spread wide,
While golf carts rolled slowly with family beside.
The vendors were ready with shells, chokes, and gear,
Knowing trapshooting friends would soon all gather here.
The scoreboards stood silent, the fields freshly mowed,
Each squad dreaming dreams of the trophies bestowed.
From Delegates' Doubles to Sunday's last Handicap,
Every shooter hoped this would be their championship lap.
Tuesday will arrive with excitement in sight,
Delegate's Doubles will kick off the flight.
Secretary's Singles and Helper's Handicap too,
The first broken targets beneath skies so blue.
By Wednesday the Hall of Fame will welcome the best,
Where Singles and Handicap put shooters to the test.
Doubles will follow with smiles all around,
While the SOS Silver Shootout brings cheers to the grounds.
Thursday brings Hawkeyes and Presidents' pride,
Handicaps and Singles with confidence high.
Then Annie Oakley will have everyone grinning with glee,
As laughter will echo across every trap field you'd see.
Friday will roll in with Doubles once more,
The Iowa Championship called shooters to score.
Preliminary Handicap will finish the day,
Then Bags and Brats keep the fellowship underway.
Saturday morning brings butterflies near,
Championship Singles—the moment will be here.
The targets fly high against bright summer skies,
While dreams of a title shined in every eye.
Awards will be given as champions are crowned,
Target Attainment and All-Americans renowned.
State Teams applauded, the Pork Feed will draw a crowd,
And Hawkeye Shoot-Off hopefuls stand eager and proud.
Then Sunday will finish this wonderful week,
With Championship Handicap—the title they'd seek.
The Membership Meeting, traditions held dear,
Would remind us why we return year after year.
President Jack welcomed friends from near and afar,
Whether driving five miles or traveling by car.
He thanked every director, each vendor in line,
And Wendy and her crew for making the week shine.
For this isn't just targets or trophies to win,
It's the friendships we've built and the people within.
It's handshakes and laughter, old stories retold,
Creating new memories more precious than gold.
So good luck to each shooter, stay safe in the heat,
Drink plenty of water between every sheet.
May your scores climb up high and your shoot-offs be grand,
At the 149th Iowa State Trapshooting Championships—
Still "The Best Shoot in the Land!"
