Never Forget. 9/11 🇺🇸🇺🇸
A MESSAGE FROM SHERIFF TYSON HUNTINGTON:
September 11th — We Remember
There are some days that stay with you forever.
September 11th is one of those days.
Twenty-five years later, I still remember the images, the heartbreak, and the incredible courage we witnessed that day. I remember watching ordinary people become heroes simply because they were willing to run toward danger when others were running away.
As Sheriff of Emery County, I have been reminded of that spirit of service many times over the years. But this past year has brought it especially close to home.
We have watched the Black Canyon Fire threaten our communities and our way of life. We have endured severe flooding that damaged homes, property, roads, and livelihoods. And through each of those difficult moments, I have watched people step forward.
I watched firefighters leave their own families and communities and travel here to fight a fire that wasn't theirs—but they made it theirs.
I watched law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, dispatchers, firefighters, emergency management personnel, and countless other first responders work long hours, often exhausted, simply because people needed them.
And I watched something that means even more to me as your Sheriff.
I watched Emery County take care of Emery County.
Neighbors helping neighbors. People filling sandbags, moving equipment, clearing debris, checking on elderly neighbors, opening their homes, bringing food, lending equipment, and simply showing up.
Nobody asked whether it was their responsibility.
They saw someone who needed help—and they helped.
That is who we are.
Today, as we remember the nearly 3,000 innocent people who lost their lives on September 11th, 2001, we also remember the thousands of first responders who answered the call that day and in the years that followed.
Their courage reminds us that service is bigger than ourselves.
I want to personally say thank you.
