Success doesn’t make anyone immune to life’s challenges. ⛳️

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have accomplished things in golf that most people can only dream about. But even the biggest names in the game face personal struggles.

For Mike Maggs, there’s a bigger lesson here.

No amount of money, fame, or professional success guarantees an easy life.

It’s a reminder to stay humble, take responsibility for our decisions, and recognize that we can learn from other people’s experiences without having to repeat their mistakes.

And while the public is often quick to celebrate someone’s success and just as quick to criticize their failures, there’s always the question of what comes next.

Can someone rebuild their reputation and write a new chapter?

The golf swing looks complicated.

The actual move can be much simpler. ⛳️

Create leverage like you’re throwing a ball. Let the arm release. Then stand and face.

When your grip, setup, and posture give the club the right conditions, you don’t need to force it around your body. Let it swing, and the club wants to create that circle around you naturally.

The hard part isn’t adding more.

It’s trusting yourself enough to do less.

And this isn’t just a driver move. The same basic release shows up from a small pitch shot all the way through the longest club in your bag.

You may never master golf, but you can work toward mastering the release.

Throw. Stand. Let it go. 🏌️‍♂️

Meet Tommy Stephenson, Certified Instructor at CaliGolf. ⛳️

Tommy primarily works with lower to mid-handicap golfers, from single-digit players all the way into the plus-handicap range.

His coaching philosophy?

Simplify the swing. Remove unnecessary movement. Build a consistent pattern that produces consistent golf shots.

But how he gets each golfer there is different.

Every player learns differently. Everybody moves differently. Great coaching means understanding the golfer in front of you and building around what they’re actually capable of doing.

And while lower scores are always a goal, Tommy believes there’s something even more important:

Enjoying the game.

You can buy new clubs, spend hours at the range, and play every weekend, but if you don’t understand the movement you’re trying to create, improvement becomes a lot harder.

Golf is simple. That doesn’t mean it’s easy. ⛳️

I’m Mike Maggs, owner and program director of CaliGolf Instruction, and one of the biggest things I see with new students is confusion.

Golf is challenging, so we assume the solution must be complicated.

More swing thoughts. More positions. More things to fix.

But as golfers improve, the opposite should happen. The swing becomes simpler. There’s less thought, less unnecessary activity, and a much clearer understanding of the movement you’re trying to make.

That’s what we want to establish from the beginning.

Every golfer already has a signature move that shows up from the sand wedge to the driver. Our job is to understand that move and build a plan around what you actually need.

That’s why every new CaliGolf student starts with a New Student Assessment with me.

We’ll assess your game, identify your swing pattern, build your game plan, match you with the right CaliGolf coach, and recommend a program that fits your goals, time, budget, and lifestyle.

Meet Baze, Lead Instructor at CaliGolf. ⛳️

Baze joined the Marine Corps in 2013, and while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, he found something that would become an important part of his life: golf.

The game gave him an outlet, a challenge, and something he could continually work toward.

That same mindset now shapes the way he coaches.

For Baze, it’s about understanding what each golfer wants to accomplish, creating a process that works for them, and making sure they’re continually moving forward.

No standing still. No getting complacent.
