I am a third generation horse girl. My mom stood absolutely no chance when I wanted to get into horses!

The first picture is me on my first event pony, Society Girl “Joules” with my mom and my grandma. This picture was taken at the first event I ever did! Most of the barn may not recognize her because that’s not what her retired self looks like 🤣

The second photo is with my young stallion, Tempus Fugit EZ . He is an important one to a lot of us and I’m not sure I ever explained his naming. My grandma’s first event horse was a thoroughbred named Time Flieth. In Latin, Tempus Fugit means time flies. Elly Schobel started calling him “The Flyer” in the womb. Little did she know that another one of my grandmas event horses was named Fly By but we all called him Fly. The last important horse in Flyers name is Mastercraft. A horse I got SOOO lucky to learn from. His barn name was EZ and I wanted to make sure it was carried forward with horses I showed in the future. He embodies all three of these horses so much! In good ways and in bad 🤣

Okay, so a little change of plans with the Thoroughbred Makeover Team!

After looking at my goals for Flyer next year, I’ve decided that the Makeover is going to conflict with some of the things I have planned for him.

BUT, I’m not giving up on the idea of teaching people how to actually retrain and produce a horse!

In fact, I think I already have the horse. Now I just need the people who want to be part of the process!

Instead of the Makeover, we’re going to put together a year-long Thoroughbred Retraining Program culminating at the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (TIP) Championships in Aiken, SC.

This also opens the opportunity up to younger riders who wouldn’t have met the Makeover’s minimum age requirement.

The concept hasn’t changed. We’re going to take a Thoroughbred and work through the entire retraining process just as we would if we were headed to the Makeover. Groundwork, flatwork, conditioning, jumping, horse care, field trips, showing, troubleshooting, and most importantly, learning WHY we make the training decisions we do.

I want to teach people how to actually produce a horse, not just ride one that’s already trained.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

* Up to 5 participants per horse.
* The horse’s monthly budget is $1,500, divided equally among participants. With 5 people, that’s $300/month each.
* The commitment runs November 2026 through October 2027, making it a one-year financial commitment. With five participants, that’s $3,600 total per person.
* KH will own the horse and oversee its training and development.
* Each participant will have one scheduled training/educational session per week. This won’t always mean riding! Sometimes the horse needs groundwork, a training ride from me, or simply a day to work on the basics.
* Participants must continue taking at least one regular riding lesson per week with me, either on their own horse or one of my lesson horses. Regular lesson tuition is separate from the program fee.
* Everyone will be involved in the entire process, including the less glamorous parts of producing a horse.

TIP Championships:

Each horse can enter up to five championship divisions, subject to the competition’s cross-entry rules. Ideally, I’d love for each participant to have the opportunity to compete in a discipline suited to them and the horse.

Not everyone will necessarily jump, and competition assignments will depend on rider ability, the horse’s development, and what is best for the horse.

Any prize money earned at TIP Championships will belong to the rider who earns it.

Show entries, hauling, stabling, and travel expenses will be separate from the monthly program fee.

I need commitments by November 15!

I need to know that I have enough people committed to make this work before moving forward with the team aspect.

If I don’t have enough interest, I’ll still produce the horse myself and eventually offer it for sale.

I’ve talked a lot about the importance of developing the next generation of knowledgeable horsemen, and this is my opportunity to put my money where my mouth is.

I’m not necessarily looking for the best riders. I’m looking for people who want to learn, ask questions, put in the work, and understand what actually goes into developing a horse.

I think I have the horse. Now I need the people.

Young Event Horse Championships 🙌

We are so proud of FGF CreamRisestothetop for competing at the YEH Championships and finishing 14th!

Ashlyn, Salem’s owner states, “A little over a year ago my trainer, Kaitlin Hartford with KH Eventing, started talking to me about buying a horse and of course I was interested from the beginning. She had mentioned this 3 year old chestnut mare who was directly off the track that she was getting as she had her full sister in the barn a few years prior.
Kaitlin planted the seed in my head that the 3yo mare could be mine, so of course I took that idea and ran with it. Salem was the only horse I ever tried, and it was the best decision I’ve made bringing her home.
Salem really made it worth while when we came to Maryland for the YEH championship. She finished 14th, and I’m just so proud of her. The dressage has been a work in progress, but watching my young horse confidently march around a bigger track was incredible. A year ago when we started this journey, I didn’t expect such great things to come to quickly. I’m so excited to continue watching her grow and seeing where she can take me. I’m so thankful for everyone that made this possible, including wonderful parents. She really is the best thing that has ever happened to me! ❤️”

Thrilled with Tempus Fugit EZ today even if the scores don’t reflect it. As the second to last horse to go, the footing was quite chewed and riders were coming off the course saying it was slick.

I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about being on a barefoot horse!

Flyer jumped super in the show jumping and was brave and bold xc. He finished 6th in The US Event Horse Futurity. Excited for the future with this one!

There was a learning seminar going on and from what I heard, the judges in there were praising him! Just need to work on the rideability.

I didn’t think this was a post I was going to have to make for a longgggg time. And I’ve dreaded the day that all my lesson kids have had to feel the heartbreak that horses bring.

Shark Bait Hoohaha… Where do I start?

I found this pony on a whim after I saw a very vague ad on Facebook. It had no pictures but something told me we had to go see him. We drove to see him and he hopped right on me trailer.

Nemo had a little bit of a bad habit of laying down on the kiddos that we fixed but he just loved a good itchy roll, especially if it was after being in shavings at a show.

He was the pony I let all my kids canter on for the first time. I could run beside them and knew they’d be 100% safe. He wasn’t the perfect angel. He would get stuck in the corner, has bucked a few times, and was genuinely a little pony. But he was the best one.

Unfortunately today Nemo suffered a bad colic that he wasn’t coming back from. I can’t thank Rigdon Veterinary Services, Alex Corbett-Leiby, and Jessica Woren as well as my husband Tucker for being there for him today when I couldn’t. He got loved on by some of his favorite kids and got all the cookies.

Lesson parents. Please tell your kids it’s okay to ask questions. If they need to call and talk, my phone is open. I just don’t gurantee I’m not going to cry with them as I have been crying all day. I wanted to put it this way because I wanted everyone to be able to tell their kids in their own way. But my phone is ALWAYS open.
