Capital Tournament Report
The first tournament of the summer is in the books. Our Frosh/Soph summer team took on Rocky Mountain, Burley, Borah, and Mtn. View. It was a tough schedule and it made us better.
Game 1- Rocky
We came out quiet and scared. Intimidated by a bigger school, a new team, a new coach, etc. The first half was rough. We regrouped. Nala Renteria (one of our 7th/8th graders came in and sparked us). Then AlleGrace Mukendi got big on the boards. We tied the second half but lost the game.
Game 2- Burley
We ended up losing by 11 points, but the energy carried over from our spark in the first game and we came close in this one. Nia Rogers, Penny Upson, and Brooklyn Coleman started attacking the basket and running the floor along while Allegrace who continued to big on the boards. Aerith Fitzgerald had some good defensive stops and Amelia Mukendi got some put-backs.
Game 3- Borah
The girls played as a team and won! They're starting to see their roles. Annabelle did a fantastic job at point guard, really taking care of the ball. Brooklyn Coleman stepped up big this weekend with team leadership, including husky voice huddle chants, (ask the girls), and joined Allegrace in the cherry-picking department. Nia Rogers continued to attack the basket and Jayden Michaelson helped on boards.
Game 4- Mountain View
Super proud of the girls digging in and going after. Jayden Michaelsen had a big game getting boards, deflections, and some points. Great hustle by everyone! Brooklyn was a cherry-picking queen and Annabelle continued to do a great job taking care of the ball. Allegrace picked up more boards. Guard Nia Rogers, Penny Upson, and Nala Renteria also continued to step up with great pressure and great attacking. Our bench was very supportive both on and off the floor and everyone did a great job transitioning to new defenses and communicating much better on the floor. We ended up losing by 11, but it was a hard fought game to the end.
