States are now catching up to the federal courts. Michigan just became the first state to move a repeal of its own suppressor and SBR felonies after the ruling that froze NFA registration. Five years in state prison for gear the feds no longer register. Two bills in Lansing would wipe that off the books.

In 2022, the CDC removed its own defensive gun use data after private meetings with gun control advocates. The stat in question: Americans use a firearm in self-defense somewhere between 60,000 and 2.5 million times a year. Even the lowest number in that range outnumbers annual gun murders roughly 4 to 1.

Last month, they just brought it back. No announcement. No new study. Nothing about the science changed, only the people running the agency.

Does the CDC owe the public an explanation for why the statistics were removed?

California is 16 months from requiring that every new semiautomatic pistol sold by a dealer be certified as microstamping-enabled, and the state needs exactly one more piece of paperwork to make that stick.

Don't know what that is? Microstamping laser-engraves a microscopic code onto a firing pin, and each shot is supposed to hammer that code into the primer of the cartridge case.

If you’ve ever bought an 80% lower or considered building at home, big news out of Fort Worth this week: A federal judge has ruled the ATF’s 2022 ‘ghost gun’ rule unconstitutional under both the Second and Fifth Amendments.

The court found that regulating unfinished frames, receivers, and kits the way the ATF did contradicts America’s long history of personal gunsmithing and is unconstitutionally vague.

The injunction currently protects Defense Distributed, the Second Amendment Foundation, and SAF members on certain products. For the rest of us, serialized stripped lowers remain the straightforward path.

New York's new gun law comes with a legal definition of "screwdriver."

Seriously. The state banned any pistol with a cruciform trigger bar that can be altered "with common household tools," then wrote the toolbox into the Penal Law: screwdrivers, pliers, crowbars, crescent wrenches.

That trigger bar has been in every G***k since 1986. Selling one becomes a felony worth up to 7 years in 2027.

Hawaii's ‘Vampire Rule’ just took a stake in the heart. Under the law, a licensed carrier had to stand at every shop door - like a vampire on a porch - until the owner invited them in. Enter without an invitation and you could face criminal liability. That was the state's default policy.

On Monday, the 9th Circuit affirmed the injunction after the Supreme Court already ruled 6-3 against it. Meaning, the default is now flipped: owners who don’t want guns now have to say so. Four other states still run the same rule.

Quick math problem for you.

The LA County Sheriff's Department took in 3,982 new carry applications between January 2024 and March 2025. It approved two. That's a 0.05% approval rate on a constitutional right. Lottery tickets have worse odds, but not by as much as you'd think.

This week the department settled the lawsuit over those numbers and committed to processing every application inside 120 days, which is what California law already required. The county promised to follow the law. That was the whole negotiation.

Imagine a toll road where the state dropped the toll to $0 back in January. But the booth is still there. Still staffed. You still stop, hand over your fingerprints and a photo, and wait months for permission to keep driving.

That's been the NFA since New Year's Day. Congress cut the $200 tax on suppressors, SBRs, short-barreled shotguns, and AOWs to zero, but every ounce of the paperwork stayed. This week a federal judge looked at it and asked the obvious question: if the whole law was justified as a tax, and the tax is gone, what exactly is the booth collecting?

His answer ran 66 pages and ended in a permanent injunction.

Quick numbers game. One Maryland county has 605 houses of worship, 693 public parks, 42 rec centers, and 13 Metro stations. Now ban legal carry at all of them, plus 100 yards in every direction.

How much of the county do you think is left?

The DOJ did the math in the lawsuit it filed Monday, using the county's own GIS data. Over 10,000 parcels and a quarter of the county are inside the zone before the 100-yard buffers even get added. Their complaint calls the law "breathtaking in scope."
