Brayden Slot has picked up his 100th victory of his career putting him in 2nd place all time to Cole Krauss at 101. Brayden is a tough competitor, plays smart, and embraces working hard in practice. With all the great players in the history of Byron Center Tennis, only 2 have eclipsed 100 wins. Congrats to Brayden!

8/29/26 | Byron Center, MI — The Byron Center Bulldogs tennis team (8-0-1) earned three strong victories at its home quad on Saturday, defeating Grand Rapids Christian, 7-2; University of Detroit Jesuit, 8-1; and Birmingham Groves, 5-4. “It was a great day of tennis against some good competition at every flight,” said Byron Center head coach Andy Ely. The day was capped by strong wins from 4S Ashton Smith and the 2D team of Sam Newell and Terrence Simmons. “Overall, we were proud of the effort we gave throughout the day. The guys know there are still things to work on, and this quad helped the coaches identify many of them to address in practice.”

Byron Center will begin conference play Monday at home against Caledonia, and Wednesday at Jenison. On Thursday, the Bulldogs will host No. 2-ranked Forest Hills Northern at 4:15pm.

August 26th, 2026 Byron Center, MI

Byron Center Tennis (5-0-1) played D3, very highly ranked, Holland Christian last night under the lights and finished in a 5-5 tie in Varsity action. Byron Center got key wins at the top of the lineup and in doubles, while Holland Christian answered with a strong showing in the middle of the singles ladder and at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. "This was a great match for us", said Byron Center head coach Andy Ely. "The first hour we played just like a young team and were struggling to find our rhythm. But, the guys hung in there and dug very deep showing me a glimpe that they have the heart to do bigger things."

Byron Center’s Brayden Slot and Brody Slot won No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-4 giving Byron Center an early point. Then at No. 1 singles, Justin Karem had a strong 6-4, 6-3 win over Nico Grosso. At No. 5 doubles, Brayden DenBesten and Brody Bednarsky pulled out a very nice 6-3, 7-5 win. Last on for doubles was Colten King (5-1) and Jonah Wiechertjes (5-1) who fought hard to get a comeback win at No. 4 doubles, edging Charlie DeVries (2-2) and Drew Tanis (2-2) 4-6, 7-5, 10-4.

The last match of the day had No. 2 singles Terrence He (6-0) needing a match win for the team to tie. He delivered one of the day’s best matches, rallying from behind to beat Holland Christian’s Asher Grosso (3-1) 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-7 in a three-set tiebreak with the lights beaming down and a large crowd all around.

Byron Center Tennis (now 5-0) defeated Mattawan by a score of 9-1 today by sweeping the doubles matches to power its latest victory. Mattawan’s lone point came at No. 1 singles, but Byron Center answered across the rest of the lineup to control the dual.

At No. 3 singles, Byron Center’s Zeke Sandholm had to work for it before holding off Ethan Vergara 6-0, 3-6, 10-5 in a three-set battle. Terrence He added a sharp 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles, while Ashton Smith followed with a 6-0, 6-1 result at No. 4 singles.

The most lopsided results came in doubles, where Byron Center’s Brayden Slot and Brody Slot blanked Ian Ruhrup and Carson Wortham 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Kenneth Hesston and Cam Phillips matched that score at No. 6 doubles, and the rest of the Byron Center pairs also finished in straight sets to complete the sweep.

In the second dual of the day, Byron Center defeated Holland West Ottawa by a score of 6-3 leaning on a strong singles showing to secure the dual meet. The Bulldogs took six of the nine varsity matches to keep their season on track.

Justin Karem got Byron Center going at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Soren Traver, and Terrence He followed with a convincing 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles. Zeke Sandholm added another point at No. 3 singles, holding off Isaac Watkins 7-5, 6-4, while Ashton Smith completed the sweep in singles with a 6-3, 6-0 result over Gavin White.

Byron Center also picked up a clean win at No. 1 doubles, where Brayden Slot and Brody Slot rolled past Lincoln Taylor and Dawson Linn 6-0, 6-3. Holland West Ottawa answered at No. 2 doubles as Josh Reimink and Jonah Hoff outlasted Sam Newell and Terrence Simmons, 6-4, 7-6 (9) in the closest straight-set match of the day. The only other extended battle came at No. 4 doubles, where Landon Schwallier and Thomas Diekevers edged Colten King and Jonah Wiechertjes 7-6 (5), 4-6, 11-9. Byron Center’s depth across the lineup kept it in control and moved the team to 2 more solid early wins in the season.

Byron Center (2-0) defeated Maple City Glen Lake by an 8-1 score on August 14th, getting a sweep in the doubles matches to finish off the dual. Byron Center’s depth showed across the lineup, as the Bulldogs won eight of nine flights.

At No. 1 singles, Byron Center’s Justin Karem earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Hawthorn Sutherland to open the match with a straight-set win. Terrence He followed at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 5-1 result after Porter Martin retired, and Zeke Sandholm added another quick point at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep of Owen Pierce.

Glen Lake’s lone win came at No. 4 singles, where Levi Lamb outlasted Ashton Smith 4-6, 6-4, 11-9 in the day’s tightest match. Byron Center answered everywhere else, including Brayden Slot/Brody Slot at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep and Sam Newell/Terrence Simmons at No. 2 doubles in a 7-6 (2), 7-5 win. The Bulldogs’ doubles sweep helped them add another early victory to this season.

Byron Center (3-0) defeated Berrien Springs by an 8-1 score on August 14th, leaning on a clean sweep of the doubles courts to secure the dual-meet victory. The team controlled the depth of the lineup all afternoon, dropping only No. 1 singles.

The top singles match went to Berrien Springs, but Byron Center answered back at No. 2 singles, where Terrence He posted a steady 6-3, 6-3 win over Edwin Seo, and Ashton Smith added another point with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Zeke Sandholm held off Hyesung Lee in the tightest match of the day, winning 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 in a three-set tiebreak. Byron Center also rolled through the doubles lineup, highlighted by Brayden Slot / Brody Slot‘s 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and a 7-6 (4) tiebreak finish from Braedyn Inthammavong and Luka Mulac at No. 3 doubles.

Byron Center (1-0) defeated Mason by an 8-1 score on August 14th, powering through the lineup to secure a lopsided dual-meet win. The Bulldogs took eight of nine matches, with Mason’s lone point coming at No. 5 doubles.

At the top of the singles ladder, Justin Karem opened the afternoon with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Charlie Hayhoe at No. 1 singles. Terrence He was even more efficient at No. 2 singles, dropping only two games in a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Garrett Backus, while Zeke Sandholm added a 6-0, 6-4 decision at No. 3 singles.

Byron Center also dominated the middle of the lineup, as Ashton Smith blanked James Spoelma 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and the Slot brothers, Brayden Slot and Brody Slot, cruised 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 doubles. Mason avoided the sweep by winning at No. 5 doubles in 3 sets.
