What your streamer actually looks like to a fish.

Ryan rigged this egg-sucking leech with a loop knot, slid a bead down, and locked it against the knot.

The loop lets the fly move freely. The bead adds a pivot point, a little erratic action, and gives the whole thing the look of a small fish chasing an egg.

So he dropped a camera into a clear pool to see how it swims.

And this bull trout was into it.

I was showing Bren how to cast the nymph rig with an Oros indicator, what to watch for, and when to set the hook.

Apparently I forgot the part where she was supposed to set the hook.

In my defense, I handed her the rod immediately. 🤗

According to Bren, that is not the same thing.

This is how we fish the Ubangi rig. There are plenty of variations, but this setup has worked well for me in heavier current.

A large Oros indicator suspends the rig and adds enough drag to help pull it downstream while the split shot ticks along the bottom. You’ll see the indicator bounce, hesitate, and occasionally hang up—that’s normal. When a fish eats, the indicator does something different. It shoots under, changes direction, or takes off. You’ll know.

The split shot is tied to lighter tippet than the rest of the rig, so if it hangs on the bottom, you usually break off only the weight instead of rebuilding the entire rig.
