After careful examination and considerable debate, we concluded it was a pumpkin. šŸŽƒšŸŽƒšŸŽƒ

Parked the boat. Thought it was safe. Didnā€™t drop the anchor.

Next thing I know, the boatā€™s headed downstream, Iā€™m stripping down to go swimming, and Fly Fish Dan is casting at it. šŸ˜‚

He finally hooked itā€¦ on 4X tippet.

Lesson learned: tie off the boat or drop the damn anchor.

How many anglers caught their first fish on a fly rod with an OROS, or helped someone else catch theirs ?šŸ™‹ā€ā™€ļø

If that was you, tell us about it in the comments.

We know itā€™s not the only way to fishā€”but itā€™s a pretty good way to get the job done. šŸŽ£

And yesā€¦ that fish definitely released itself. šŸ˜‚

Sometimes shorter is better. šŸŽ£
A veces, mƔs corto es mejor.

It all depends on the conditions. In this water, we had about 16 inches to the OROS indicator and the fly just 8 inches below it. The super-short leader kept extra line off the water, while the OROS indicator gave us visibility and a little more depth control in the faster current.

Something we learned in Argentina: our name can get a little lost in translation. OROS comes from the Greek oros (mountain) + genesis (birth) ā€” the birth of mountains. And ā€œOrosā€ was a nickname for someone who studied orogeny, the science of mountain building.

What your streamer actually looks like to a fish.

Ryan rigged this egg-sucking leech with a loop knot, slid a bead down, and locked it against the knot.

The loop lets the fly move freely. The bead adds a pivot point, a little erratic action, and gives the whole thing the look of a small fish chasing an egg.

So he dropped a camera into a clear pool to see how it swims.

And this bull trout was into it.
