Happy Labor Day! đź’Ş

As the long weekend winds down, we hope you’ve had a chance to slow down, spend time with your people, and enjoy a well-earned break.

Tomorrow, we’re back at it, not because we need to “make up” for the weekend, but because taking care of ourselves is something we get to keep choosing.

Enjoy the rest of your evening. We’ll see you back in the gym! ❤️

September 1st.

And no, we’re not about to tell you there are only 4 months left to “get your act together.”
We don’t need that kind of pressure.

What we do have is an opportunity to make the next few months look different.

Not perfect.
Not all-or-nothing.
Just more consistent.

Maybe we train 2–3 times a week.
Maybe we start eating in a way that actually supports our goals.
Maybe we stop restarting every Monday and start building something we can maintain.

September can be a fresh start without becoming another extreme reset.

We still have plenty of time to make progress we’re proud of.

What’s one thing we’re committing to this September? 👇

This looks like a simple drill. It’s not. 👀

We’re not just asking them to run to a coloured disc.

They have to listen to the call, process it, make a decision and react, all while moving at speed.

Because in sports, we don’t always know where we’re going next.

We have to see it.
Process it.
And respond.

Fast feet are great.
Fast decisions are better. ⚡️

That’s what we’re training here.

Would your young athlete love this kind of challenge?

You don’t need to know what you’re doing before you start.

That’s what coaching is for.

Maybe you’ve joined a gym before and felt completely lost.
Maybe certain exercises don’t feel right because of old injuries, aches, or limitations.
Or maybe you’re ready to make a chang, you just don’t want to waste time guessing your way through it.

That’s exactly why we offer One-on-One Personal Training at JDFit.

We meet you where you are.
We learn what you want to accomplish, what your body needs, what’s held you back before, and what will realistically work for your life.

Then we build your training around you.

No cookie-cutter workouts.
No trying to keep up with everyone else.
No walking into the gym wondering what you’re supposed to do.

Just individual coaching, a clear plan, and someone in your corner helping you move forward safely and confidently.

Because getting stronger isn’t about knowing everything before you begin.
It’s about having the right support once you do.

A stronger deadlift starts before the weight ever leaves the floor.

The Trap Bar Deadlift might look simple: grab the handles and stand up.

But the details in your setup matter.

We want our feet around hip-width apart and centred inside the bar so the weight stays balanced over the middle of the foot.

From there:

✔️ Reach for the handles
✔️ Drop the hips into position
✔️ Brace the core and upper back
✔️ Drive the hips and shoulders up together
✔️ Reset and retighten between reps as needed

One of the biggest things we’re looking for? Hips and shoulders moving together.

We’re not racing through reps or just trying to get the weight from point A to point B. We’re building a position we can stay strong in, and then repeating it.

Good reps start with a good setup.

Save this for your next deadlift day. đź’Ş

Every few months, there’s a new diet telling us exactly what we need to cut out.

Carbs. Sugar. Eating after 7 p.m. Certain foods. Sometimes entire food groups.

And for a while, it might even work.

But there’s a big difference between following a diet for 30 days and building a way of eating you can maintain for years.

At JDFIT, we believe nutrition has to work in real life.

That means work gets busy. Vacations happen. We go out to dinner. We have stressful weeks. Sometimes the meal we planned just isn’t happening.

A good nutrition strategy shouldn’t fall apart the moment life gets messy.

Instead of creating more rules, we want to help people build skills.

How to make a reasonable choice at a restaurant.
How to enjoy pizza without feeling like the weekend is ruined.
How to adjust when routines change.
How to have an imperfect meal without “starting over Monday.”

Because consistency doesn’t require perfection.

It requires a way of eating that actually fits your life.

Check out our blog at https://getjdfit.com/gym-news/restrictive-diets-dont-do-it-what-actually-works/ where we break down why restrictive diets so often lead people back to square one, and what we can focus on instead.

Stop starting over. Start building habits you can actually live with.

We used to think progress had to come from doing more.

More workouts.
More rules.
More restriction.
More pressure to get it “right.”

But the people we see build lasting habits aren’t the ones who change everything overnight.

They’re the ones who keep showing up.

They miss a workout and come back.
They have a busy week and adjust.
They stop expecting perfection and start building consistency.

Because eventually, working out stops feeling like something you’re *trying* to do.

It becomes part of your routine.
Part of how you take care of yourself.
Part of who you are.

That’s what we’re here to help you build. 💪

What’s one habit you’ve gotten better at showing up for?

“I started the wood splitter I always needed my husband to start for me.”

That message came from one of our members this week.

No before-and-after photo.
No number on the scale.
No dramatic transformation.

Just something she couldn’t do before… that she can do now.

She told us she wishes she could SEE more of the progress in her physical appearance.

But she also feels stronger.
Her endurance has improved.
And this week, she started a 35-ton wood splitter by herself for the first time.

That’s not a small victory to us.

Because one of the biggest reasons we train has nothing to do with how we look.

It’s being able to do more.
Feeling capable in our own bodies.
Having the strength and endurance for the things life asks of us.

Sometimes progress shows up in the mirror.

And sometimes it shows up when we pull the cord on the wood splitter and realize…

Wait. We can do this now.

Those wins count, too. đź’Ş

What’s something you can do now that you couldn’t do before?

From middle school to the D1A stage. đź’š

We’ve had the privilege of watching Libbie Tacia grow, work, and continue chasing what’s next, and now, she’s heading to MSU to join the Elite Dance Team!

Libbie will be competing D1A Jazz and OK at NDA Nationals, and we couldn’t be more proud of everything she’s accomplished.

There’s something pretty special about getting to watch someone who has been part of our JDFIT family since middle school step into a new chapter like this.

Libbie, we’re so proud of you and excited to see where this next season takes you. Keep working, keep growing, and go show them what you’ve got! 💪

Help us wish Libbie the best as she heads off to MSU! 👏

Push-ups aren't just about getting from the top to the bottom.

They're about how you get there.

A few simple adjustments can completely change the exercise:

âś… Keep your rib cage down to avoid excessive arching through your low back.
✅ Lead with your chest—not your hips. Think about rowing yourself to the floor before pushing it away.
✅ Keep your elbows around a 45° angle. Too wide can put unnecessary stress on the shoulders, while too tucked isn't ideal either.

Once you've mastered the basics, it's time to progress.

Start with kneeling push-ups to build strength and technique. Move to full push-ups when you can maintain great form. Looking for an extra challenge? Try performing them on an unstable surface like a physioball to increase the demand on your core and shoulder stability.

Remember: progression only matters if the quality stays high.

Master the fundamentals first, then earn the harder variations.

Which push-up variation challenges you the most? Let us know below. 👇
