Forty feet of clear blue and a boat full of people who could not get in the water fast enough.

Captain John ran the Holiday Princess out to Looe Key Reef this morning and found the reef sitting under 40 feet of visibility with the water at a bathwater 88Β°. A light southeast breeze put some texture on the surface β€” 1 to 2 feet, nothing that slowed anybody down β€” and the current ran mild to the west, which is about as easy as it gets out there. Snorkelers, first-timers and full scuba divers all went off the same rail, all morning long.

Saturday at Looe Key, moorings 11 and 13, and the boat stayed busy from the first entry to the last.

Our Big Pine Key crew ran both balls with seventy feet of visibility on the morning trip and a light south breeze that never built into anything. Guests off the rail, guests on the reef, guests still sorting fins on deck β€” the ordinary good version of a Saturday out here.

Six of you posed up on the stern Tuesday afternoon and every single one of you is grinning. That's the whole post right there.

Captain John Weis ran Looe Key again Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning, and both boats brought the energy: peace signs on deck, a guest airborne off the rail with both thumbs up, another wading in off the platform, cameras going the whole time. Sixty feet of clear water Tuesday, and Thursday morning was cleaner still.

88 degrees and you can see their fins from the deck.

That's the shot. Two divers hanging at the surface off the Holiday Princess this morning, and from up on the boat you can read their whole bodies through the water β€” legs, fins, the works. Fifty feet of visibility does that. No current at all, which is the part experienced divers get excited about and everybody else doesn't realize they should: with nothing pulling at you, Looe Key stops being a swim and starts being a hover. Pick a coral head. Stay on it. Come back when you feel like it. Captain John had light and variable wind, under a foot on the surface, and 88-degree water. Nobody came up cold and nobody came up early.

Monday morning at Looe Key, a nurse shark came through right underneath two of our snorkelers. Nobody touched it, nobody chased it β€” it just cruised past and kept going, and the whole boat talked about it the rest of the run.

Captain John Weis ran the Holiday Princess Monday and Tuesday and got the good end of the week: light southeast wind, seas under a foot, and Tuesday morning the water opened up to eighty feet of visibility. Divers, snorkelers, cameras, first-timers in yellow vests β€” the whole deck. This was last week!

15 spots. 11 days. One of the most important dives of the year.

We launched our September 13th NMS Reef Clean-Up Dive at Looe Key this week and the response has been strong β€” but we still have 15 spots open for Advanced Open Water certified divers who want to do something real for the reef they love.

Here's why this dive matters more than most. The debris we're targeting on September 13th sits below recreational cleanup depth β€” anchors, derelict traps, and weighted gear that drags across living coral with every current change. Standard cleanup dives can't reach it. AOW certified divers can.

Since 2024, Captain Hook's divers and Force Blue Special Operations veterans have together removed more than 9,000 pounds of marine debris from the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. September 13th adds to that total. Every diver on that boat is part of that number.

If you've been thinking about it β€” now is the time. These spots will go.

Four snorkelers, one September breeze, and sixty feet of clear water underneath all of it.

Our Looe Key crew ran the third trip of the morning out of Big Pine Key today, and the surface had some personality to it β€” ten knots with a little extra push every time a rain cloud drifted past. That's normal for early September and it's nothing the reef notices. Below the chop, our crew called 60 feet of visibility over the spur-and-groove, with a slow current pushing up from the south. If you've been putting off Looe Key because you think September is a wash, this is the week to reconsider. Post-holiday, quiet mooring field, plenty of room on the reef.

One hundred feet of visibility. Captain John didn't stutter when he called it in.

The Holiday Princess tied up at Looe Key Reef this morning and the water underneath her was doing the thing that only happens a handful of mornings a season β€” reef structure readable from the boat deck, before a single mask hit the water. South wind at 5, seas under a foot, and no current at all, which means nobody spent the trip swimming uphill. Look at the frames: guests going off the rail with both thumbs up because they'd already seen what was down there. 88Β° water. Divers and snorkelers, same boat, same reef.

16 spots. One of the most beautiful reefs in the Florida Keys. September 13th.

Looe Key doesn't need much of an introduction to anyone who has dived it. The coral formations, the marine life, the clarity β€” it's one of those dives that stays with you. And right now it needs some help.

Sunday, September 13th β€” Captain Hook's Big Pine Key is running an Advanced NMS Reef Clean-Up Dive at Looe Key, and we have 16 spots open for AOW certified divers who are ready to do something meaningful for a reef they love.

We're going after the debris that standard cleanup dives can't reach β€” anchors, traps, and weighted gear sitting on living coral, causing damage with every current change. A dedicated divemaster for every four divers. Pre-dive instruction on safe debris removal. Post-dive discussion on real reef impact. Everything recovered goes to proper disposal and contributes to ongoing scientific research.
