Portland Pudgy

Portland Pudgy Check us out at www.pudgy.me ! The Portland Pudgy safety boat is a yacht tender, lifeboat, and recreational sailboat, all in one.

We make a top-quality, dependable and rugged boat that's a stable and roomy yacht tender, a proactive lifeboat, a fun sailboat, and a great sports boat. The stable, unsinkable Pudgy is extremely buoyant and has huge carrying capacity. It's great to row and motor, and it's a fun sailing dinghy. Even without the inflatable exposure canopy, this rugged, unsinkable boat can save your life.

Portland Pudgys Around the World!

Many of you have probably recognized the tropical anchorages, remote islands, and bright orange sail appearing in our posts over the past couple of years.

A special thank you goes to Maryanne and Kyle Webb aboard SV Footprint, who have generously shared photos and stories from their travels throughout the Pacific and beyond. Their images have inspired countless sailors and dreamers—including us. They stopped in along the way to our shop here in Maine to get a new lifeboat canopy.

Those photos also inspired a new project:

Explore the map and add your Pudgy!

The map shows where Portland Pudgys have traveled, from local harbors to distant cruising grounds. Every pin represents an owner, an adventure, and a story.

The best part? You can add your own Pudgy directly to the map.

Just visit the page, upload a photo, drop a pin, and tell us where your Pudgy was at the time.

Whether your adventures are in Maine, the Bahamas, New Zealand, Alaska, Fiji, or your favorite hometown anchorage, we’d love to see them represented.

Our goal is simple: build a living map of the Portland Pudgy community and the places these little boats have taken us.

And once again, thank you to Maryanne and Kyle for years of generosity, inspiration, and some of the most recognizable Pudgy photos in the world.

Many folks ask about beach wheels for the Portland Pudgy. We tried several options to mount on the transom, but the curvature and the flexibility of the plastic makes it not ideal for mounting wheels. We bought one of these kayak carts from VEVOR and found out that it is really a good fit and decent quality. The rails can be adjusted to fit right into the slots on the bottom of the Pudgy. We don’t make any money on this link, it’s just here as a suggestion for current owners:

VEVOR kayak cart with 350 lb capacity features 12'' tires for all terrains, adjustable width, and foldable design for easy transport and storage.

Ask us how we can make it easy for you to be sailing literally next weekend.

A rugged rotomolded rigid dinghy that delivers the stability of an inflatable with the durability of a hard-shell hull.

A Portland Pudgy in her natural habitat.

Diane Mawhinney and Gregory Roscoe spend much of their time cruising the islands of Casco Bay and Penobscot Bay aboard Tardigrade, their Diesel Duck 48 designed by George Buehler and built by Gregory Roscoe.

Behind her, as tender and exploration boat, is their Portland Pudgy.

Diane says they use the Pudgy for “gunkholing” around the unspoiled islands of Maine — reaching the quiet coves, rocky shorelines, and hidden places that make cruising here so special.

This is exactly what the Pudgy was built for: a tough, stable, capable little boat that earns its place behind a serious cruising vessel.

Thanks to Diane and Gregory for sharing the photo of Tardigrade and their Pudgy.

Row. Motor. Sail. Explore.

We’re testing a new map: Portland Pudgies Around the World!

If you have a Portland Pudgy photo from your travels, we’d love for you to try adding it to the map.

Upload a photo, choose an approximate location, and tell us where your Pudgy has been — tender duty, sailing, rowing, cruising, beach landings, kids, dogs, weird docks, remote anchorages, all of it.

We’ll review submissions before they appear publicly. Please use an approximate location if you don’t want to share an exact spot.

Every season on the first trip, I’m reminded and delighted at how well the sails. This year in particular she seems faster than ever!
