Rewinding this one back to the real start of the day. 🌊☕️

7:30 AM. Ariel and I rolled in with a trailer full of gear, coffee in hand, an empty site, and a whole lot to figure out before everyone showed up.

Scout the setup. Make the plan. Start unloading. Then watch the whole thing come to life.

This was the calm before Volcom Slice N Shred. 🤙

First peek at the island and the official kickoff of Volcom Slice N Shred. 🤙

I followed Ariel Diehl out as she hauled a gas can over for the generator, which hits a little different now knowing we found out after the event she’d been doing all of this with a broken wrist.

Then jill | FLUX FOTOGRAPHY grabbed the camera and helped capture those first moments as everything came online, the DJ booth getting set, the judges table with Olivia and MIGZ 9INER, and the whole island officially turning into Slice N Shred.

This was the moment it stopped being setup and became the event.

Big shoutout to the entire crew that made the free surf lessons and loaner board program happen at Volcom Slice N Shred. 🤙

Maggie O’Sullivan, Isabel Rodhouse and Sage Gorbett were a huge part of getting people comfortable, getting them on boards and helping introduce new surfers to the wave. Maggie also helped round up and keep track of the loaner boards and made sure everything found its way back home at the end of the day.

And a huge thank you to everyone else who jumped in to help with coaching, sign-ups, boards, safety and keeping that whole section of the event moving. It took a lot of people working together to make those free lessons possible.

Big love to Backbone Surf Co. for showing up and supporting Volcom Slice N Shred. 🤙 These guys are right here in Bend, designing, building and testing high-performance surf fins in both river waves and ocean surf, with a big focus on flex, speed, drive and responsiveness.

They came out to the event with fins to demo, let people actually feel the difference on the wave, and hooked up anyone who wanted to grab a set with an event discount. That kind of hands-on support from a local surf company is exactly what we love seeing.

Getting everyone signed up, boards moving, surf lessons rolling, and helping turn a busy morning into something the whole community could enjoy.

These events don’t happen without people willing to show up and put in the work behind the scenes. Huge thank you to every volunteer who helped us get the day started. 🏄‍♂️🖤
