BREAKING: U.S. Soccer is set to takeover the U.S. Youth Soccer Association, the largest youth sports organization in the United States, per The Athletic 😳
▫️ The move would give U.S. Soccer full control of USYS by 2028, creating a more centralized youth soccer structure.
▫️ USYS currently has 2.5M registered players and 54 state associations.
▫️ The goal: reduce fragmentation, improve player development and make the youth soccer landscape easier for families to navigate.
▫️ BUT — this will not eliminate the “pay-to-play” model or suddenly make competitive soccer cheaper.
▫️ U.S. Soccer is also working toward a broader overhaul involving organizations like US Club, ECNL, Girls Academy and MLS NEXT.
▫️ State associations could eventually be consolidated and transformed into local arms of U.S. Soccer.
