AmKor Karate Institutes Celebrating 49 years of high quality instruction in traditional Tang Soo Do. Headquarters: Aston PA

Master Frederick Scott, 8th Dan, is Founder and Chief Instructor of AmKor Karate Institutes. Master Scott established the first AmKor school in Aston, Pennsylvania in 1977. Since then, several of his students have established additional AmKor Karate schools throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Recognized internationally as one of the leading American instructors of traditional Tang Soo Do, Master

Scott's achievements as a competitor, instructor and tournament coordinator are well documented. Under Master Scott's direction, AmKor Karate Institutes has earned an outstanding reputation for high quality instruction and competitive excellence. Although Master Scott's teaching philosophy has always emphasized the preservation of Tang Soo Do as an art form, he believes traditional training can be supplemented with sport competition. As a result, AmKor Karate students have won more than 500 National and 54 International Gold medals since 1977 and have represented the United States in the some of the most prestigious Martial Arts competitions in the world. AmKor Karate has fielded teams to compete in Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Hungary, Puerto Rico, and Malaysia. Master Scott and his students have been featured in Black Belt Magazine, Karate Illustrated, Tae Kwon Do Times, and Combat. Master Scott's expertise is highly prized by professional athletes who want to take their game to a higher level. Master Scott has served as a consultant to the Philadelphia Flyers, the Philadelphia Phantoms and the Philadelphia 76ers. In addition to his work with professional athletes, Master Scott also served as a consultant to the Disney Institute in the creation of a self-defense program for their state-of-the-art sports complex in Orlando, Florida. In August of 2004, Master Scott traveled to the Olympics in Athens, Greece as a member of NBC's Broadcast team. Longtime student Pat Croce was a commentator for the NBC television broadcast of the Olympic Tae Kwon Do events.

A sincere thanks to all that made last weekend’s Delaware County Karate Championships a success. Over 70 Black Belt judges ran 10 full rings with 5 judges in each, providing a safe, fair, and efficient event. We could not have pulled it off without 25+ Scorekeepers and Timekeepers, our Setup and Breakdown crews, Registration diehard John Troxel coming up from Virginia, and the Chichester Basketball Concession Stand.

The event drew competitors from eight states: Arizona, Tennessee, Connecticut, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, and across Pennsylvania. The excellent turnout meant expanded divisions across many ages and ranks with representation from multiple styles and organizations. The adult Black Belt competition was diverse, action-packed, and memorable to watch.

Congrats to the Grand Champions!
🏆 🏆 Men’s Forms and Fighting: Master Minsu Pumarejo of Success Martial Arts in Arizona.
🏆 Women’s Forms: Master Jenna Latini of World Class Martial Arts.
🏆 Women’s Fighting: Ms. Leighann Foster of American Tang Soo Do.

On behalf of KJN Frederick Scott and Master Erica Scott Tierney, thank you to all the instructors, competitors and families for their support. You won’t want to miss next year as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of AmKor.

📸 Our first batch of photos from the weekend are all courtesy of talented photographer Joe Caulfield, who truly has a gift for martial arts timing. Thank you for these incredible snaps!

A great weekend spent at Seven Springs! Our Amkor Black Belts had hard earned medals across all events but the red belt boys stole the show again with another
🥇 🥇 🥇 in Fighting: Henry in the 9 year old division, Mason in the 10 year old division, and Tyson in the 11-12 division. A big congrats to Master Michaela Speers, who popped in from a work conference at the resort to take Grand Champion 🏆 in Women’s Fighting and snapped some amazing action shots. KJN Scott’s Draft Team Fighting was a hit as always: KJN Trudgill led his team to an amazing comeback that started with Paige Muir changing the momentum and was clinched by Marcus Kremin in overtime.
Special thanks to the amazing setup/breakdown crew from Joe Goss Karate, our trusty truck driver Alex Dorrell, the tireless work of April Goss in registration and all things behind the scenes, GM Robert Zang who kicked off the weekend with a fantastic Friday night fighting clinic, and of course all of the hardworking volunteer judges and scorekeepers. Until next year!

We’ve hit three tournaments in the last five weeks, starting off with the American Tang Soo Do Karate Championships in October. Our red belt boys swept 🥇 in three divisions for Fighting: Mason won the 9-10 division, Tyson won the 11-12 division, and Carson won the 13-14 division. Great job to all who participated and the Forms Grand Champion, Mr. Brandon Wright!

Thankful for the courage and sacrifice of our veterans today and every day. KJN Frederick Scott is pictured at Fort Bragg, North Carolina after being drafted in December 1969. As a squad leader he’s front row, second from left. He was the Distinguished Honor Graduate for his battalion and received a perfect score in the Physical Combat Proficiency Test.
May all of our veterans feel the gratitude and respect of our nation!

These three were reunited in class on Monday night and competed together over the weekend. They graduated high school in June and are continuing to train in different ways:
Jason is commuting to trade school at Universal Technical Institute studying Automotive Technology. Despite 5am wakeups, he’s still in class four nights a week. Evan is majoring in Illustration at Rochester Institute of Technology and has found space on campus to train on his own, popping in for class over breaks. Brandon is attending Widener University majoring in Sports and Event Management, finding the balance between campus life and coming in once a week to train and assist with children’s classes.
We are proud of their new paths and their ability to keep training!
