“One of the marvelous things about community is that it enables us to welcome and help people in a way we couldn’t as individuals.”
- Jean Vanier

KSF’s staff get-together was such a beautiful celebration of community. Time and a state line may have separated us physically for a while, but our hearts - oriented toward creating better lives for others - are as connected as ever.
Being with these wonderful humans was so affirming of the uniquely human ethos of voluntary self-sacrifice for community. What a gift to be together again! To those unable to make it; we missed you!

We are looking forward to welcoming new members to our community and are excited for what the future holds in this beautiful place.

Happy Harmonius Hump Day ☀️

May this sweet redhead-brunette sandwich remind you to seek out and make time for your friends. When we intentionally stay connected, our pro-social neuro-chemistry supports wellbeing. Can you find 5 minutes to call or text a friend today? It will be good for both of you 😊

One of the perks of getting up before the sun is witnessing her arrival on the scene. It’s hard to not feel awe and gratitude in moments like these. Have a beautiful day!

Lessons in Harmony from wise exemplars

Dakota and baby Ri reminding us that if Predator and Prey can look past their differences and enjoy a moment of connection, perhaps we humans can do a bit better at looking at one another through a lense of commonality and desired harmony too.
Wishing you a lovely weekend!

Orderly Breakfast Time

Our horses are fed very little “concentrates” or grain, but because forages (hay and grass) may be lacking important nutrients like trace minerals, vitamins, essential fatty acids and quality proteins, we do supplement those twice a day. They eagerly await these feedings and you can see how happy they are to be munching away.
It’s quite delightful watching them learn to keep to their own buckets (with an occasional reminder to the more dominant personalities) despite some of them getting tastier portions due to individual needs. Successful herd management includes always providing ample resources so no horse feels the need to fight for their share. Resource-poor conditions increase cortisol as it stimulates the threat center, and horses in those environments lose resilience, emotional balance and trainability. Although the KSF herd has experienced a lot of change this year, they are really settling into their sense of safety and wellbeing, and their contentment is palpable.

May you give yourself a moment today to fully take in autumn’s splendor; smell the air, feel the breeze, see the color.. 🍁
As the trees release their leaves, perhaps you can release something that is no longer serving you; a regret, a worry, a self-judgement, and live just a bit lighter.

“Lean on Me”

What does Community look like?
Showing up for one another - especially in time of challenge.
Storm clean up was looking pretty undo-able to me…just SOOO much debris over so many acres…
And then this crew shows up yesterday and lightens my burden and spirit!
What a gift is friendship and the KSF community is full of these selfless individuals whose “other” orientation truly makes this world a brighter place.
(And we had no fun climbing trees with chainsaws and removing 100s of pounds of debris 😏…okay, we actually had tons of fun)
I am so grateful! ♥️
